Flavor hs notes of caramel, toffee and honey. No bitterness or hop character whatsoever - overly sweet. Mouthfeel is full, round and creamy with lively carbonation. No lacing or head retention. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 6, 2005 A decent enough brew. Malty, could use more hops. An easy drinker that could serve as a crowd pleaser but won’t challenge or overly excite the beer geek. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 31, 2005 Pours gold with a small head and thin lacing. Smells of grass, caramel, brown sugar and honey. Taste is slightly bitter with a nice nutty finish and some mild hints of coffee and roasted malts. Not a typical ESB, closer to a brown ale. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 24, 2005 Came in a 12 pack beer sampler - of the four beers in the sampler, this one left me wanting. I did not really taste any particular hoppiness, nor did I find it bitter enough for an ESB. Kind of watery and lacking in texture as well. It was allright, but I doubt I would go out of my way to find it again. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2005 Pours is copper in color. Small white head with a little lacing. Aroma has hints of nuts and fruit. Taste is malty on the front end, then has grape hints in the finish. As other have mentioned...no real hops taste for an esb. tmad (93), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 17, 2005 A copper red color, has a sweet grape-like aroma. Not a strong tasting beer, has a somewhat white grapejuice flavor, a little maltiness. The hops are very faint, I don’t particularly like this beer, although it is better tasting than the Lager River Horse I just drank. I hope the others in the variety pack I purchased are better. Good thing this was on sale. steerpike (28), Greenfield, Massachusetts, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 11, 2005 Very nice copper color and malty nose. Went down easily, and very malty sweet, with a definite honey essence, as the label suggests. However, in a ESB, I’m looking for at least some hops, and I really didn’t find much in that department. Thoroughly average - not up to par for the style.
