Commercial Description:
Special Ale is our flagship ESB. It’s been with us from the start and hasn’t changed since that first brew way back in 1996. Ample quantities of caramel malt give this English ale a soft copper hue and the colorful addition of carapils malt adds a slight sweetness you might mistake for honey.

With thanks to Blankboy for sharing. Appearance: Dark orange with a small white head. Aroma: Slight hop, slight malt, slight cream and grain. Flavour: Slightly honey like, not a lot going on.... slight dry finish.

This amber pours with a slight chill haze and features a modest head with a mild lace that slides down the glass side. The aroma is predominantly caramel with a touch of hop. I also detect an unpleasant metallic smell. The caramel aromas translate into caramel flavors that last into the aftertaste. This has a very light hop for the style. The carbonation is moderate to high and the body is thinner than the coloring would suggest. Much more malty than most ESB’s, and certainly more watery. I wouldn’t recommend it past a curiousty tasting.

Bottle. Pours a hazy rust color with a skim of a light-tan head. Subtle aroma that features some caramel, honey, spiciness, and hints of grain. Thin to medium-bodied. Starts off with some sweet caramel maltiness and is followed by a strangely creamy middle with some honey flavors that took some getting used to. Finishes with a light biscuitiness.

Bière mauvaise qui se boit difficiellement. N’a pas grand chose d’une ESB, si ce n’est un léger goût de caramel. Il y avait également des petites graines en dépot au fond de la bière.

[Draft @ Maloney’s] Poured a deep amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, some citrus, floral hops, grains, and toast. Taste of caramel malts, some brown sugar, vanilla, citrusy hops, and a lightly bitter finish.

Nice looking orange, thick white head. Aroma of graham crackers, dough, a bit of chocolate. Very nice. Palate is tart & fruity + some honey sweetness. Some hoppiness at the end. Nice beer.

Poured from bottle. Malt and butter in the aroma. Nice lookin golden color with thin head. Burnt malt flavor, hops in back. Watery feel. OK, but there are better ESBs out there.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber body with a thin off white head. Nutty earthy hop aroma. Caramel malts. Light fruity esters like apple skins. Not very good. Thin watery body.
