sensory first impression: Fruity, banana overtones in the aroma. I love the scent. Taste is like Victory’s Golden Monkey, though with smoky depth as well. No water in this brew’s flavor. A very nice and respectable flavor - it may be this breweries’ best offering, but definitely stands out in this sampler. Finish is amazing - hoppy, dark, asringent, and long.
Aroma/Olfactory:
Malt flavor is: syrupy, banana bread, walnuts, roasted, dark, deep rich.
Hop flavor is: resinous, floral, dark
Yeast flavor is: cheese, mold, silt, sand
Other flavors include: alcohol, banana, sausage, smoke, delicious
Visuals/Appearance:
Color is: pale, gold, orange, brown at the edges, very pretty, and very deep.
Liquid is: slightly hazy
Head and lace are: bumpy, off white, and lasting. Great lacing.
Taste/Flavor:
Maltiness or Sweetness level is: heavy
Hoppiness or Bitterness level is: heavy
Sour level is: light
Palate/Tactile:
Body or Mouthfeel is: full
Texture is: creamy, sticky, thick, papery, pulpy
Carbonation is: lively
Finish is: astringent, long, and wonderful.
Overall experience: A fantastic beer. Up there with other great dubbels and tripels. I liked the banana overtones, the color, and the alcohol infusion. I did not like the difference between this offering and others in this breweries’ lineup. River Horse, use this as a model to aspire to. corby112 (729), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of spice, pepper, sweet fruit, caramel and alcohol. Well balanced winter beer with peppery spice and sweet fruit notes. Slightly watered down with strong alcohol warmth. Appearance: Thick cloudy look , green tint with golden brown , minimal head shown Nose :Muted. Candy sweetness, caramel with flower like accents , anise and alcohol. Flavor/Palate : Sweet almost cloying caramel front , artificial notion. Thin bodied , watery ending with yeasty alcoholic finish. How 10 % brew can be so empty . Where is the substance one might ask. Under that sweetness potent dose of alcohol sits, be aware or better stay away.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Very little head. Clear coppery color, darker than most tripels I remember. Really fruity aroma. Pretty spicy/peppery taste. Rather fruity. It doesn’t have that dryness most other tripels have, which is maybe why I liked it more than many other reviewers here. Pretty sweet taste. High alcohol is unnoticeable. Feels pretty light in the mouth. CJfromPhilly (82), Aston, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 8, 2008 Pours from the 12 oz. bottle a burnt orange/amber color with a head that is rather small for a Belgian. The head settles quickly (due to the 10% abv?) into a modest collar that sticks to the glass. I don’t get much of the vanilla esters in the aroma, i’m reminded more of a the aroma of peach Jolly Rancher candy. VERY sweet aroma, decent carbonation. Taste isn nowhere near as sweet as the aroma (thank goodness). Slight hint of the peachy/vanilla aroma with a sharp dry spiciness. There’s a kind of peppery bitterness on the end and in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat sparkly. All in all, an interesting Tripel. Not anywhere near the best i’ve had of the style, but not something i’d turn away from. I’m gonna have to age one of these & do a comparison. Goodgrief (1152), Middletown, Delaware, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 3, 2008 July 2006 - Unimpressive pour. Unimpressive aroma. Unimpressive taste. Light gold pour, no head. Next to no aroma. Flavor really thin…moderate amount of sweetness, a good bit of hop bitterness, but not good at all. It’s like a grassy, hay hop…odd. stangger (155), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2008 12oz bottle at the Chestnut Grill in Chestnut Hill, PA. Pours a light amber color; Aroma is a bit bland and smells like a high-alcohol mixed drink. Very sweet flavor with a hint of vanilla. Alcohol very apparent. Dry finish. This also tasted rather yeasty, and I suspect it was on the young side.
