Sweet malty aroma with a caramel and minor whiff of dried fruit. Sweet, slight fruity and spiced flavour. Vanilla providing some smoothness to the palate. Malty, slight yeasty and very sweet finish. fiulijn (7520), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Light amber color; huge head. Very strong aroma, typically Belgian, Belgian yeast, dry malt and a strong spicy character (coriander); sweet; traces of cloves; complex. Medium-weak mouthfeel (not too thick), some malt flavor, some vegetables (tomato), coriander, average bitterness. Pleasant but not impressive. HoppityHop (105), New Jersey, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jun 14, 2007 I tasted vanilla and possibly wintergreen and it looked like cream soda. Cream soda that was left in my ’fridge with the cap off for three days. How could a Belgian Ale be this flat tasting? Oh wait, it’s River Horse and they seem to excel in producing lack luster flat brews. Then again, I’ve met others who say their stuff is overcarbonated, so I guess it all depends on the mood of the brewer? No hops to speak of, and it finishes with a funky sweetness that was not pleasing. Thick mouthfeel that goes against what every good Belgian Ale tastes like. Another rotten interpretation of style by River Horse. I think this brewery needs to spend more time in the brewhouse crafting their product and less time on Adobe Illustrator designing their labels. This was horrible. I’d rather drink Steel Reserve. Glouglouburp (2887), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2007 Cloudy dark blonde body with a medium white head. The body is round and smooth thanks to the doughy yeast. Very yeasty indeed. Alcohol is apparent but under control. I would have guessed 8% or 9%. As expected from a high abv tripel it is rather sweet. Honey sweetness is the dominant taste here. Fruity notes are second with mainly pears and some grapefruits. The last dominant feature is a perfumy floral aroma. Flower petals on the nose and ladies perfume in the taste. Nice beer but there are plenty of better and easier to find blonde tripels out there. Probably more enjoyable for the locals as its perfumey nature probably nicely balances New-Jersey’s aroma. wheninhell (486), louisville, Kentucky, USA

My first River Horse. pours clear orangeish amber with a good white head that settles into a thin film. aroma vanilla caramel with hints of nutmeg. sweet with some bitter notes. vanilla caramel flavor with a spicy nutmeg cinnamon backdrop. finish medium dry spicy cinnamon caramel nutmeg vanilla. full body. lively carbonation. not as fruity as i would like but still quite enjoyable. it seems a bit heavier than some triples. if someone had given me this blind i would have thought it was a full bodied pumpkin ale. the alcohol is hidden well. redlight (1499), Winter Park, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 20, 2007 Sugar and caramel on the nose. Pours a rich gold color. Very rich flavor, caramelly, tastes heavier than it is, and it hides the 10% well. Nicely done. Beerio (48), USA

This beer is very fuckin dry on the palate, but then it’s almost overwhelming sweet in the aftertaste department. My advice...sell your balls and buy Orvalle Trappist or Duval. America rules the market when it comes to craft IPAs, Porters, and Pale Ales, but the Belgian style is only made right by Belgium Monks...which serves them right, as they have given up pussy to make fuckin beer.
