Commercial Description:
Notice a unique aromatic nose with a hint of vanilla esters, which comes from the Belgian ale yeast. Tripel Horse has a big body and rich mouth feel and finishes mostly dry with only a touch of sweetness. If you shy from some of the sweeter Belgian ales, we think you will enjoy this one. The palate improves with age, so keep some on hand and you can ride Tripel Horse down a new path with each opened bottle.

Fantastic beer. Pours a dark amber with a thin head. Aroma is vanilla and and floral hops. The flavor is smooth and complex. Reminds me of DFH 90 minute IPA.

This is the best American Tripel I have had yet. Better than Allagash and Golden Monkey. It has a refreshing citrus note to to it mixed with a spice and hop finish. Absolutly top notch. Re-rate 06/2004 They have changed something with this beer, although they tell me that they have not. It is now very sweet, too sweet.

River Horse Tripel Belgian Style Ale ABV: 10% Calories: estimated at 200 C Volume: 12 fl oz Glass: tulip Purchased at: smapler pack from Glendale Liquors, Lawrenceville, NJ Price per fl oz: $14.99 / 144 fl oz = $0.10 per fl oz Consumed at: Home sensory first impression: Fruity, banana overtones in the aroma. I love the scent. Taste is like Victory’s Golden Monkey, though with smoky depth as well. No water in this brew’s flavor. A very nice and respectable flavor - it may be this breweries’ best offering, but definitely stands out in this sampler. Finish is amazing - hoppy, dark, asringent, and long. Aroma/Olfactory: Malt flavor is: syrupy, banana bread, walnuts, roasted, dark, deep rich. Hop flavor is: resinous, floral, dark Yeast flavor is: cheese, mold, silt, sand Other flavors include: alcohol, banana, sausage, smoke, delicious Visuals/Appearance: Color is: pale, gold, orange, brown at the edges, very pretty, and very deep. Liquid is: slightly hazy Head and lace are: bumpy, off white, and lasting. Great lacing. Taste/Flavor: Maltiness or Sweetness level is: heavy Hoppiness or Bitterness level is: heavy Sour level is: light Palate/Tactile: Body or Mouthfeel is: full Texture is: creamy, sticky, thick, papery, pulpy Carbonation is: lively Finish is: astringent, long, and wonderful. Overall experience: A fantastic beer. Up there with other great dubbels and tripels. I liked the banana overtones, the color, and the alcohol infusion. I did not like the difference between this offering and others in this breweries’ lineup. River Horse, use this as a model to aspire to.

First and foremost the intial aroma is sugary and sweet. When it first hits the palate it gives a bit of a sting but soon after the sweetness kicks in. All in all its pretty goddamned good, high in alcohol content and very easy to drink. I like. I really like. I say bosh to the 73 rating. It deserves at least a 90.

Sampled on draught at the brewery in Lambertville, NJ. River Horse offers a sample of what they have on tap in the tasting room/gift shop for $1. Bottled and keg beer is avaliable for purchase as well. Triple Horse is their small batch, winter seasonal. Pours to a slightly hazy, golden color with a white head that fades, and a moderate amount of carbonation. Aromas of pale malt, sweet malt, spicy/earthy yeast, black pepper, and alcohol flood the nose. The palate is firm, with good pale malt flavor, paired with an under tone of spicy yeast flavor. Mouth feel is a little thin for the style. Tripel Horse finishes with more good pale malt and yeast flavor up front, then drys with touches of peppery alcohol heat that lingers. Nice domestic version of triple.

A little old, maybe painty aroma. Very light flavor. Certainly a deceptive beer. Flavor is a bit plain, but mostly quite nice.

Draft at Max’s: Golden yellow, hazy, moderate white head, aroma of sugar and yeast, flavor is pleasantly sweet sugar and honey, some spiciness and hints of bread, excellent mouthfeel, just coats and bathes your tongue, awesome beer in my opinion
