BückDich (4540), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 27, 2008 Bottle: Pours a copper color with light head and some lacing. The nose is lightly spicy with a bit of caramel and yeast, flat and dull though, no grain or hop character. The flavor is metallic with some alcohol and grassy bitter mouthfeel. No love or cohesion. muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 25, 2008 12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington VT (January 2008), served a little below cellar temperature from a Unibroue glass. Given the overall quality of this brewery, and the fact that this is an amber ale, it’s not an unfair guess that this would be virtually identical to the RJ King Wingwalker Amber Ale I had the other night....let’s see.....the head isn’t nearly as voluminous; it’s just a finger or two, quickly dying but leaving chunky lacing above a dull light brass body.....the nose is more citric, with some light woody hops; caramelization not really overpowering as it was in the regular Amber....smooth, vaguely bitter and moderately sweet, with some woody-twiggy qualities, a bit of toasted malt, a hint of smoky-burnt character....too thin and watery, a bit overcarbonated, but fairly drinkable and actually significantly better than the regular Amber. So, not the same beer at all. I guess that’s a good thing. Dogbrick (2214), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2007 Bottle from Albertson’s in Tehachapi, CA. This brew pours a mostly clear orange-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of malt and spices with some hops in the background. Medium body with equal parts hops and malt backed up by hints of nuts and spices. The finish is moderately spicy and has a lingering hops aftertaste. Not bad, and it is nice to finally try a halfway decent beer from the Wingwalker line. DuffMan (1935), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Feb 10, 2008 Slightly hazy orange, moderate orange-tinted head. No lace. Subtley spicey hop aroma, moderate caramel malt with a nice crisp hop finish as promised. Winter seasonals tend to be dark, especially from places that get snow like Wisconsin, so this was a bit of a surprise. mjg74 (1772), La Mesa, California, USA Dec 9, 2007 Updated: Dec 11, 2007Bottle from Albertsons. Pours a cherry cola color. Sweet and sour malty aroma. Mild malty flavors. Drinkable, but the quality is certainly lacking.
