BigBen2120 (553), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA Dec 14, 2007 12oz brown bottle from Shaw’s. A somewhat vigorous pour yields a golden amber body translucent with a slight chill haze and a half inch of off-white head that dissipates rather quickly but leaves a little lacing that clings to the side of the glass. Smells like biscuit and caramel malt, but not strongly. Roasty rich caramel malt dominates that flavor with hints of nut and chocolate with a slight hop bite in the background. Slight hints of caramel and nut linger on the palate in an otherwise clean finish. Medium in body with a fair amount of carbonation. By no means the greatest winter offering around, but definitely a pretty solid beer and an easy drinker for sure. Definitely will be picking this one up again - especially for the price. puboflyons (369), New Hampshire, USA Jun 23, 2008 From a 12 fl. oz. bottle. No lot code or date of production. Pours a ruby-brown with a little bit of off-white head. The aroma is heavy in sweet malts and maybe a little hoppy. The flavor is rich in malts with noticeable hops. Not much in the way of spices like other Winter seasonals but I liked this a lot and more than some of the earlier raters. NeonLX (258), Wisconsin, USA Dec 23, 2007 Cleaning up after the latest snowstorm to blow through made me thirsty, so off to the beer aisle I went. Found a six pack of this on sale & decided to give it a whirl. From a 12-oz. bottle, it pours a pretty crystal-clear medium amber with a sizable white head, which soon settles down to a moderate lacing. Fairly strong malty & grainy aroma. First taste is mildly roasted malt with some nuttiness, followed quickly by a surprising hoppy bitterness. Medium-bodied with just right carbonation. This ain’t half bad and, as a bonus, it’s priced cheap as well. Better than I expected. Dogbrick (2209), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2007 Bottle from Albertson’s in Tehachapi, CA. This brew pours a mostly clear orange-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of malt and spices with some hops in the background. Medium body with equal parts hops and malt backed up by hints of nuts and spices. The finish is moderately spicy and has a lingering hops aftertaste. Not bad, and it is nice to finally try a halfway decent beer from the Wingwalker line. Reid (988), Salem, Oregon, USA Dec 7, 2007 12 oz single bought at Albertsons for 79 cents.
Ok looking ale, clear amber, with good carbonation and a very nice light tan head, that persists.
Malty aroma mainlly, some hopping well in the back, rather subdued but not unpleasant.
Spicy, semi-bitter malts and a nice touch of hop in the back and in the aftertaste, Slght tang of dark chocolate and pepper.
Not bad on the palate, actually quite acceptable levels of carbonation and a nice long drawn out after taste.
Overall, I really liked this one, especially for the price.
It aint no Jubelale or Wassail , but it is certainlly acceptable.
