muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 25, 2008 12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington VT (January 2008), served a little below cellar temperature from a Unibroue glass. Given the overall quality of this brewery, and the fact that this is an amber ale, it’s not an unfair guess that this would be virtually identical to the RJ King Wingwalker Amber Ale I had the other night....let’s see.....the head isn’t nearly as voluminous; it’s just a finger or two, quickly dying but leaving chunky lacing above a dull light brass body.....the nose is more citric, with some light woody hops; caramelization not really overpowering as it was in the regular Amber....smooth, vaguely bitter and moderately sweet, with some woody-twiggy qualities, a bit of toasted malt, a hint of smoky-burnt character....too thin and watery, a bit overcarbonated, but fairly drinkable and actually significantly better than the regular Amber. So, not the same beer at all. I guess that’s a good thing.
puboflyons (347), New Hampshire, USA Jun 23, 2008 From a 12 fl. oz. bottle. No lot code or date of production. Pours a ruby-brown with a little bit of off-white head. The aroma is heavy in sweet malts and maybe a little hoppy. The flavor is rich in malts with noticeable hops. Not much in the way of spices like other Winter seasonals but I liked this a lot and more than some of the earlier raters. naivepegasus (139), USA Apr 18, 2008 Pours a light amber with a finger of foamy white head. Odor of sweet malts. No real taste of hops in here, instead its more bread and a lingering sweetness in the aftertaste. I really don’t like wingwalker beers, but this is probably the best one of them I’ve had, for what it’s worth. fuya_jo (215), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 14, 2008 Pours to a light amber color. Small head with minimal lacing. Aroma of grain and yeast. Thin mouthfeel. Tastes of mild citrus, hops, malt, some bread tastes. Not nearly as hearty as I would expect from a winter beer. However, for $5.75 for six, I can’t complain. With that being said, it’s an easy-to-drink brew, but overall, it’s pretty bland; forgettable.. DuffMan (1868), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Feb 10, 2008 Slightly hazy orange, moderate orange-tinted head. No lace. Subtley spicey hop aroma, moderate caramel malt with a nice crisp hop finish as promised. Winter seasonals tend to be dark, especially from places that get snow like Wisconsin, so this was a bit of a surprise. bitbucket (1471), Kirkland, Washington, USA Feb 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy, dull copper with a fading white head that produces a bit of lace. Fruit, citrus and dust in the aroma. And there may be a little hint of butter. Light, watery body and medium carbonation. Not a lot in the taste, but it does seem to have a lightly spicy/woody character. It’s very lightly sweet, but I’m not picking up much in the way of "malty richness" however, there is that "crisp hop finish" as promised.
