Commercial Description:
This "typical" beer has an aroma of wheat, caramel malt and yeast, which give it its legendary spicy taste. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast enriched flavor.

Formerly known as Cheval Blanc Rousse, now only as Spéciale Rousse.

Cap Espoir. Pours deep amber into a tulip. Beige head quickly recedes to hug rim. Sweet caramel and wheat aromas. Crisp with upfront caramel and a dry, lasting sweet yeasty wheat finish.

Orange-amber in colour with a thin quickly dissipating white head, no lacing. The aroma is of light citrus, caramel malt sweetness and some some light yeast. The flavour seems a little flat, some citrus, a high caramel malts sweetness, stale hops. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, light body, mild carbonation. Finishes thin, watery.

This is pretty much as uneventful as a beer can get.

341ml bottle from La Trappe a Fromage in Gatineau, Quebec.
Opened on July 1, 2008.
BB September 2007.

Comes branded as Cap Espoir with a beautiful label. Pours a lightly hazy orange with a minimal head and some lacing, and a faint sweet aroma. Taste is quite pleasant - wheat malt and caramel sweetness, light generic spice. Lightly creamy body, decent carb. Very quaffable. Thanks to Robin for the trade!

Bottle from local Grocery by my Hotel in the Latin Quarter. Pours a deep orange with an off white film of head. Grainy aroma with some caramelized suggestions. Fairly light body with a subdued flavor. Thin, caramelized grains, a touch oxidized perhaps, with a note of coriander in the background. Residual sugars in the finish. Simplistic.
