Commercial Description:
Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

341 ml bottle from a trade with jessem. pours hazy yellow with lots of yeasty chunks. aromas are of a spicey wit. the flavours are very much like a wit. very yeasty and pronounced spice on the palate. drinkable but not something id crave. this would have been more enjoyable on a hot sunny afternoon. thanks for the bottle jesse!

341mL from a mixed sixer I got at a little Dep in Hull while in Ottawa for the OUA champ swim meet. Pours a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma is odd, very Wit-like, but with a spicy hint and an odd element of something bizarre that could only be what I assume is buckwheat. Flavour is very reflective of this aroma and I hate to use the term, but this beer actually does ’dance’ a little bit on the palate. Very lively feel to it. It’s basically a spiced up Wit with an interesting twist of buckwheat thrown in for kicks. Decent enough, actually quite tasty, I’m becoming a fan of this brewery.

Very hazy orange colored body with a very thin white head. Aroma of curacao, coriander seed, apricots and alcohol. Light-bodied; strong taste with malt, apricots and bananas up front fading to nothing. After taste is completly bland - nothing of the taste shows up at all. Overall an odd beer, it starts strong then ends bland. Not really worth trying but this one is good to try from Montreal. I sampled this 340 ml bottle purchased from a small convenience cneter off of Laurier in Montreal, Quebec CA on 28-May-2006.

Bottle in my Montreal Hotel room: Pours a hazy golden with a strong small white head. The aroma is spicy, crisp and wheaty with lots of coriander and mild orange peel. Fluffy crisp feel on the palate. Hearty wheat flavor with lots of spiciness (especially coriander) and a touch of orange citrus. Light barley sweetness comes through when it warms. Residual smooth coriander remains into the finish. Very crisp and balanced. Easy drinking.

12 oz bottle- Deep hazy orange/amber with a generous froth of white head. Nice lace too. The nose is all out spices, lots of corriander and cardamon?and floral with wheaty, fruity sweet malts, with a good dose of apricot. It’s all pretty messy though. Taste is sweet apricot and wheaty, yeasty spices with corriander coming through in a big way. All about the corriander. Finish is creamy which WOULD leave this quite drinkable if not for the spices. This is too spicy and messy to be able to enjoy any more than 1 bottle.Dunkelweizen? Right.

12oz bottle purchased from Metro Joanette in Montreal. Pours a cloudy light straw. Nice yeasty, peppery aroma. First taste is on the thin side. A bit of yeast, but not much in the way of spices or fullness. The flavour doesn’t seem to be improving as it goes on. I’ve had this in the past, but not for a while. I had thought I remembered this beer being better than this, but perhaps I’m confusing it with a different beer. But you’d think I’d remember a buckwheat beer... I will try to resample when I get the chance.

C’est une bière blonde qui possède une odeur et un goût très épicier. C’est une bonne bière
