Commercial Description:
Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

(341 ml bottle). Golden colour, hazy and cloudy. Heavy particles. Lovely spicy and sweet nose. Tastes very heavily of coriander . Spices and again spices. This is a style of beer I’m growing to appreciate more and more. Pretty interesting beer. Certainly a very different and unique beer for a beginner in craft beers.

This is a strange one. Growing up, Kasha n’ Bowties was a comon dish on the table, kasha being yidish for buckwheat. Upon tasting, I am instantly taken back to those olden days, of by bubbie and zadie arguing while my dad got drunk on kosher wine and mom, well mom just sat there. Anyways, pours a slightly cloudy coper, of orange head with just a little yeast residue floating to the top. Aroma of coriander seed and buckwheat stand at the nose, and a slightly olily, slightly grainy mouthfeel make up the first levels of this one. Taste is dominated by buckwheat, very easily mistaken for cracked wheat but if you were raised on the stuff you can tell the diffrence. Spice makes a huge aperance in the first taste, coriander seed, anise, nutmeg, and a trace of bubblegum, with undertones of spicy hop {probably saaz} sage, parsley, bitter greens and slightly soapy. Aftertaste is very smoth, a little sweet, and dominated by more wheat. I’m not shure, but I think I like it. Very one dimentional, but it’s a great dimention. Cheers. {Note, the first time I tried this was graduation from chef school, years ago, and it was at that party I discovered the wonderfull world of beers that dont taste like labat blue, happy memory :-}

A strange beer for sure. Smells and tastes very heavily of coriander: soapy, silky wheat and spices everywhere. Soapy texture, smooth, but really just overboard with the coriander smells and flavors that nothing else really is allowed to be sensed. Still, if those are it’s defects it’s not that bd overall - one dimensional, sure - but still tasty.

Lightly hazed golden/amber color. Taller off white head. Tropical fruit, bubblegum, coriander, limes and candi all come through, through a thick heavy buckwheat aroma. Light effervescent body, that still has a slightly oily feel (3+). Lots of fish food in the final pour. The yeast help mellow out the flavors. Lightly sweet buckwheat honey does come to mind. Some tropical drink flavors also come out, with mild coconut and pineapple. An interesting brew. A touch sweet, but still an interesting quaff. Thanks beerbuzzmontreal.

Bottle acquired in trade with boutip (thanks!). Poured a medium to darker and hazy golden color with a large to very large sized white head. Aromas of stonger spices, lemons, and light bananas. Tastes of spices (not as strong as the aroma), citrus, bananas and light wheat. The tastes on the softer side compared to the aromas. Refreshing. This is a style of beer I’m growing to appreciate more and more.

Poured a hazy orange amber color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, lots of spices (think juicy fruit gum), and light banana. Tasteof banana, more bubblegum, tons of spices, yeast and some tart wheatiness in the background. Really nice and spicy, thanks Steve!

Reddish gold with a full head. Nice spicy sweet scent. Slightly bitter sweet taste. Bitterness grows in the aftertaste.

341ml brown bottle. Golden colour, head was creamy white, long lasting. Was expecting some haze, but this beer was fairly bright. Fruity aroma, coriander, oranges, perfumy, floral and pleasant. Mildly sweet. Flavours included orange, slight yeast. Some bitterness in the finish. A bit highly carbonated. Tasted more like a wit to me.
