Commercial Description:
Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

Bouteille de 341 ml. Arôme: Odeur d’agrume et d’épices, de coriandre entre autre. Apparence: Couleur blonde foncée, voilée. Petit col qui ne dure pas. Carbonisation moyenne. Saveur: Goût de sarrasin et d’alcool (?). Palette: Légère acidité sur la langue. (Rating #29).

660 ml bottle. Lightly translucent bright orange, with a big fluffy lasting head...orangy, spicy earthy nose with hints of pepper...orange, banana esters shine weakly in the body...fairly sweet, a bit rough, semi-sour lactic-hinting finish. Ehh.

Bottle: Poured a medium brown color ale with generous head that goes away too quickly. Aroma is quite complex with definitely some buckwheat and a few spices (probably some coriander mix with something else) completed with Cheval Blanc usual yeast. Taste is quite complex with the roasted buckwheat hitting you right at the beginning and then coriander mixing quite nicely with the yeast. I waited a while until I could pick-up a fresh sample before rating this since I’ve noticed that it doesn’t aged very well.

decent yeast, lace in a light coloured haze. Refreshing though drying. Light mouthfeel. Above average carbonation. Taste that buckwheat. Easy drink, no complaints. Average beer. Malt, slightly sweet countered by corriander, pepper biting spice..

Soft, sweet velvety wheat aroma. Pleasant to my nose . Hazy with nice crown . Flavour full front, with typical (?) for buckwheat flavour, sweet dry plum with intense wheat soft feel. Medium bodied. Interesting hoppy finish. Warming alcohol. Complex and well rounded . Pleasant surprise!

bottle. pours a hazy golden colour, looks great in my hacker weizen glass. lots of yeast particles floating around. As per the decription, this beer is quite spicy which I found to be quite satisfying. There are also some nice fruit notes. A fantastic pint for a beautiful summer day like today.

Tasted in Ottawa. Obtained from Depanne Plus. 650ml bottle. Here we go.... Appearance is rusty golden yellow, with very small head and a very cloudy appearance. Have to admit, had to strain this bugger. Upon viewing the sediment in the bottle, I found just too many chunky yeast bits.... Aroma is relatively plain, and watery. Taste is only slightly more ’deep’. Taste is remiscent of a belgium wit, but very watered down with little or nor flavour. Oh Well....
