Commercial Description:
Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

Stunning. More mouthfeel and a bigger, fruitier flavor than hefeweizen. Also manages to avoid the bad aftertaste and the drinking-a-loaf-of-bread feeling that other buckwheats (Rogue) have. I’m not sure they still make this. If they stopped, it’s a damn shame.

Rerate 03/30/03: On tap at Cheval Blanc Brewpub this is one of the best beers I have ever had. It resonates with malt and belgian complexity and rich notes of buckweat... it danses on the tongue and lingers there for minutes after each sip. This is not the same beer as in the bottle.. Also this is NOT a german wheat as it is labled above:::::Previous rating: Disapointing, considering how much i had heard of this one. Faint rye malt flavour, "dirty" cheval blanc yeast and spices blen in this acceptable belgian styled ale. Just change the yeast guys.

Ginger spicy aroma and fruity aroma. Great clear beer with moton in it. Really really spicy beer. Some ginger and pepper taste with a tiny fruity flavor. Great strong palate. Will take this beer again anytime.

Golden colourd, hazy. Acidic lightly estery nose. Refreshing and fruity with somewhat soapy mouthfeel. Well balanced. This is just my type of beer, and I really liked it!

Poured a hazy orange amber color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, lots of spices (think juicy fruit gum), and light banana. Tasteof banana, more bubblegum, tons of spices, yeast and some tart wheatiness in the background. Really nice and spicy, thanks Steve!

Bottle: Poured a medium brown color ale with generous head that goes away too quickly. Aroma is quite complex with definitely some buckwheat and a few spices (probably some coriander mix with something else) completed with Cheval Blanc usual yeast. Taste is quite complex with the roasted buckwheat hitting you right at the beginning and then coriander mixing quite nicely with the yeast. I waited a while until I could pick-up a fresh sample before rating this since I’ve noticed that it doesn’t aged very well.
