JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Nov 1, 2009 Deep amber pour. A bit of light ruby highlights coming through as well. The nose is fairly fruity with a bit more spiciness than I would expect from a Scotch Ale. A bit of clove and allspice on the nose with a touch of sweet fruity maltiness. Lots of heavy spice and toasted malts. Quite Belgian in it’s presentation. cfrancis (291), Gloucester, Ontario, Canada Oct 6, 2009 Brownish orange colour, aroma of malt, honey and caramel. Taste is a little caramel, mostly malt. But there is nothing that definitely stands out as amazing or overpowering. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Mar 21, 2009 650 mL bottle. Slightly translucent copper orange with a film of head. Aroma is burnt caramel malty, with some underlying (American?) hops, honey, and lots of berries. Flavour just ain’t there, though. Thin up front. Just a bit of caramel and some berries. Like those dried out strawberries you sometimes find in breakfast cereal. Oxydized and over-carbonated. JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2008 660mL bottle. Shared with my Dad. Pours a beautiful amber with a small beige head. Aroma is pretty big on the peat, with some caramalt thrown in, not much trace of hops, nor yeast despite being alleged bottle fermentation. Flavour is is a bit of a mixed bag, but over-all good. Some boozy notes with weird fruity esters, but surrounded by tasty peaty/caramel malts. Finishes well with a sweet super maltyness and the most minor of hints of hops. I think the percentile may be a bit low on this one, it’s really not that bad. Good fuller mouth-feel. If you love peat and caramalt, this is your thing. I like it, despite some of the weirder aspects, in general it’s a pretty tasty brew. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 24, 2008 nice brown pour, medium caramel malt aroma, and a touch of DMS. Flav our is smooth, and qite tasty,a nice caramel flavour, but in the end the DMS coms through, not a bad beer, but not great pforei (338), USA Jun 22, 2008 Bottle. Dark copper color decent head. Malty, a lot of caramel, surprisingly not smokey/peaty. Thick syrpy taste without any sharp notes. Not much in the ay of hops. Fruity. Thin to medium body. caledonian (367), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 26, 2008 Caramel aroma, rich amber color, faint amount of carbonation, not much of a head, dominantly malty, goes down fairly well.
