| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Thin head which dissipates quickly. Sweet malty and caramel aroma with some smoke and raisins in there for good measure. Color is a very nice copper red. Sweet and smooth with more caramel and some earthy notes. Not a whole lot though. Light alcohol presence. I kind of like this brew. Finishes is smooth and slick. A decent scottish ale. Actually, a very good scottish ale in a category with very few good brew as far as I am concerned. radiomgb (2072), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Clear brown in colour, brown coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is of toffee and some smoke, raisins, grains and lightly sweet. The flavour is actually quite grainy, moderately sweet, some smoke, fruit and caramel. Fizzy mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long, sweet with some more grains. This isn’t terrible but the high carbonation became a distraction. Sweetness becomes cloying.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 1, 2007 650 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage, shared with Phil, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. MR31/07.
App.: Deep reddish copper, clear, smallish tan head.
Aroma: Sweet toffee, a touch smokey, lots of candy-sweet malt, a touch nutty, a little stonefruit and dried dark fruit.
Palate: Medium-full body, full, effervescent carbonation.
Flav.: Much like the nose, a few more esters, more roasted malt and a little more smoke. Slightly sweet, barely any bitterness and a bit of lingering mouth-coating.
The label is great. The beer is fair.
