The nose is very malty with apple cinnamon, toffee, pineapple and brandy. The front chocolate trufflish like the body is slightly sour with pineapple and brandy notes leading to a sharp bitter finish. Eructoblaster (1497), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 18, 2004 Very nice and limpid ruby-bronze body. Its head is also nice but fades quickly. Timid caramel nose: I was expecting something more. Bittersweet flavor and an acid final that bears some unpleasant hints of metal. This is OK but I must admit that I am sort of disappointed... Some work is to be done on that one. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Traditional style Scottish. Clear russet. Acorns, noble hops and light wheat in the aroma. Soft brown sugar and caramel body, lighter session feel overall. I wasn't expecting anything sensational and wasn't let down. Not bad, defintely not a wee heavy. I'd be interested to here how it compares to Scottish ales in Scotland. TAR (2093), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Clear light rufous. Retentive, creamy light tan head. Huge, round floral noble hop aroma with vague yeast notes and peachy esters. Hints of caramel, melon, wax, and plum. Spicy alcohol whisper adds more sweetness to the obscured maltiness. Thin, watery body. Moderately airy, as well. Fairly spicy first sip. Passion fruit and star anise notes soften the spiciness as a light plum twang counteracts the sweet, lightly toasted malts. Mellow glazed maltiness gives way to white grape and juicy hop notes while the spicy alcohol tingles the cheeks. Adequately balanced finish between the lightly spicy hops and sweet, grainy, bready malts. Candied maltiness tries to add some balancing depth and sweetness, but leaves just as quickly as it appears, surrendering to the yeast and hop notes and lifeless body. Yeast and mineral remain on the tongue after the swallow beneath the persistent hop and plum presence. This needs a lot of work. Less yeasty aroma and flavor along with more body and malt fullness would be a good start. Roli (321), laval, Quebec, Canada

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 10, 2003 Pleasant simple malt aroma with some fruitiness. Clear red-copper colour with thin off-white fully diminishing head. Some toasted malt apparent at the finish but overwhelmingly sweet simple flavour. Very thin body. Not that it's horrible to drink but this is no scottish ale. Put it on nitro and call it an Irish Red and watch the ratings soar. Bottle. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Aug 9, 2003 Malty sweet aroma. Flavor is sweet malt, sweet malt with a horribly sweeet finish. This tastes incredibly underattenuated. Yeesh!
