The nose is very malty with apple cinnamon, toffee, pineapple and brandy. The front chocolate trufflish like the body is slightly sour with pineapple and brandy notes leading to a sharp bitter finish. Bov (5455), Bienne, Switzerland

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2008 660mL bottle. Shared with my Dad. Pours a beautiful amber with a small beige head. Aroma is pretty big on the peat, with some caramalt thrown in, not much trace of hops, nor yeast despite being alleged bottle fermentation. Flavour is is a bit of a mixed bag, but over-all good. Some boozy notes with weird fruity esters, but surrounded by tasty peaty/caramel malts. Finishes well with a sweet super maltyness and the most minor of hints of hops. I think the percentile may be a bit low on this one, it’s really not that bad. Good fuller mouth-feel. If you love peat and caramalt, this is your thing. I like it, despite some of the weirder aspects, in general it’s a pretty tasty brew. dhurtubise (568), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Tasted more like a too heavy bodied belgian to me. PhillyBeer2112 (2087), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 13, 2001 Quite smooth and drinkable, but
not much of a Scottish ale. Its on
the malty side, but lacks that smoky
strong malt you’d expect. Lightly fruity.
Cloudy brown color, foamy head. Dorwart (1814), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Thin head which dissipates quickly. Sweet malty and caramel aroma with some smoke and raisins in there for good measure. Color is a very nice copper red. Sweet and smooth with more caramel and some earthy notes. Not a whole lot though. Light alcohol presence. I kind of like this brew. Finishes is smooth and slick. A decent scottish ale. Actually, a very good scottish ale in a category with very few good brew as far as I am concerned.
