Syrupy dark cherries and bitter chocolate…Yeasty background in a thick body…Far from a disaster…

The best Belgian beer not brewed in Belgium that I’ve had.

Oakes’s review has me second guessing myself. I found it a little sour in the nose and at the tip of the tongue: I’d concluded this was from age, as the bottle was dated April 2000, and I was sampling July 2001. Behind that sourness was a full smooth mildly fruity flavor, almost English in nature. The beer resembled a cask conditioned ale, with its light amber color, smooth body and foamy head. As a Belgian inspired ale, its a little underdone. As an English ale, it was nice yet old/soured. Hard to say - but generally I enjoyed it.

Yeasty, fruity, belgian influenced strong ale, with cherry and raspberry notes and a suggestion of chocolate.
