Hazy amber colour with a 1" thick, fairly persistant head. Very malty smelling, with a sweet caramel malt, vanilla, maple syrup, and whiskey prominently displayed. Smells like a dram of single malt scotch. Flavour is also sweet and slightly smokey. Some yeasty flavour and a bit of earthiness also sneak into this as it warms a bit. Finish shows the tiniest hint of floral hops before trailing off into sweet whiskey and maple. Decent body. Could have been cloying but wasn't. A very interesting and respectable beer that’s worth trying. Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada

They must have changed recipes because a lot of people don’t remember it being this mapley. Pours orangey brown very cloudy. Maple syrup and french toast aroma. Lots of real maple syrup flavour. Citric notes, yeast, and a faint smokiness. Smokey maple finish that is not too sweet. A Belgian Strong Ale? Sure! presario (3008), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 23, 2004 Not sure if the recipe has changed as I found the syrup stonger than previous ratings. Not sure this beer is correctly categorized as a Belgian Strong. Should be the official beer of IHOP. The entire house smelled of maple syrup. As soon as the bottle opener touched the cap the bottle foamed over but quickly settled down. Dark orange. Surprisingly flat head but continual light bubbles. Aroma reminds of french toast. There is a yeast scent that tries to rise and is overpowered by the syrup. Flavour is not as sweet as expected. Neither is the body as thick or syrupy as feared. Touch of metallic and baking soda. Dryer than one would think too. Not world class but an interesting experiment. One of those must have once only beers. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Pillowy off-white head on opaque hazy-tawny body. Smoke malt up front with a touch of orange and maple sweetness that lingers. Like a sugar-shack in a bottle. Bienvenue au Quebec! Bottle. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2004 Orange-brown dense opaque body that introduced a strong maple taste. There is hops and a form of flowery taste that took time to identify: celery salt. The beer felt more complex than other maple inspired beer and had a subtle camp fire smoked after taste. Good mix of malt, hops, spices and celeri salt (!!!) flavor. Long and moderately bitter final. Hard to compare to any other product. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
