Toasty malt with a little of that spaghetti sauce funk I only find in the odd English hop and German Kellerbier. Walnut pour, still a bit light, with clingy, rocky tan head. Taste initially promises dryness but soon becomes cloying. Light toasty funk with some nuttiness. Light body, generally smooth and very creamy. Aftertaste dries out somewhat. Little earth, buttery without the diacetyl. Surprised how much I liked this one (and I did!). Heathen (800), Riverside, New Jersey, USA

TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark reddish brown with a small, light tan head that mostly diminished. The aroma was OK but very weak. There was light to moderate caramel and nutty malts, very light hops and slight cola. The initial flavor was slightly sour and lightly sweet; while the finish was sweet and ever so slightly bitter with a short duration. There was not much balance. There was caramel malt, nuttiness, a little sour malt, a hint of chocolate and ever so slight hops. The medium body was like watered down syrup with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent and slightly metallic finish. phukktifano (159), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Subtle aroma leads off with caramel malts and ends with a faint whiff of chocolate. Toasty, malty taste; some bitterness. Hops were rather muted. Medium-to-light bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel, a fairly thin palate, and a short lived finish. pablo t (3), Mechanicsville, Virginia, USA does not count | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Pured a medium brown with some reddish hues. A thin head with some rapidly fading lacing. Some floral hops and toasted hops in the aroma. Taste included some toasted a little toffeee like drier maltiness finishing off with some hops bitternes. A fuller than medium body with plenty of carbonation. Overall a pleasant English brown with enough character to make you want some more but still within the style.
