Part of a flight of 3 Barleywines/Strong Ales (along with Redhook Treblehook and Shipyard Pugsley Barley Wine), served a near room temp and in similar shaped snifters: Coppery hue (a bit less red than the Treblehook) with a small but lasting head and spotty lace. The aroma is pretty much on point with the style of a younger American made barleywine with heavy notes of herbs and resiny hops, pepper and clove, caramel and toffee, buttered bread, apple and pear, with a hint of alcohol vapours. The taste is rather astringent hops and an undertone of bready and toffee malts. Slightly band-aid and metallic finish does little to make me want more. The best part of this beer is the overall mouth feel, aggressive and sharp but not over the top. The carbonation does help clean the palate of he metallic finish. Simply does not deliver, muddled and not very complex.

Hazy orange/copper color with a tall, creamy off-white head. Fruity malt aroma. Sweet, lightly bittered. Rather simple and one-dimensional.

Malty aroma. Flavor was underwhelming. Might improve with some age. Considering other American Strongs I’ve had, it wasn’t too impressive.

Taste 3/9 bottle. Looks: Light brown murk with a thin tan top. Aroma: Liquid bread, grain and malt heavy with a yeasty and mild citrus in the background. Taste: Just like the aroma. Very much like wheat bread with a nice spice and pine in the finish. One of the best S. Carolina beers I have had.

Bottle… Murky, caramel-colored ale with a small, wispy, off-white head. Fruity, caramely aroma. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Good balance. Reserved caramel sweetness; moderate grapefruit pith bitterness. Lengthy, crisp, lightly bitter finish. Thanks go out to growler for shipping this bottle!

12oz bottle courtesy of kinz. Beer from new state for me so special thanks pal. Aroma of a malted cany like a candy carinival apple. Copper body with off white head and mild lacing. Sweet malted caramel and the dry hoppy finish of an IPA. Smooth and easy on the palate for a strong ale. Ahhh...

(12oz bottle, thanks CaptainCougar) Small off-white head atop cloudy amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel/butterscotch, orange, some grapefruit. Taste is moderately sweet, pine/grapefruit, caramel, some toffee, light orange. Medium-full body, some stickiness.

2008 Bottle - Thanks CaptainCougar! - Pours hazy copper with a small off white head...aroma is faint citrus and pine, sweet malt...flavour is okay balanced front end bitters and caramel malt, finishes with a lingering hoppiness... not very complex and not incredibly well put together, but still fun to try...
