| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 7/20 | Oct 4, 2007 The style: Styleless industrial Golden Ale with a fruity twist
The conclusion: Feels synthetic. As bad as it is boring.
The how: This rating is for a fresh new bottle with new re-branded Cap Espoir label. Had it many times in the past as a RJ Special Rousse and it wasn’t so bad but I never took notes.
The look: Cloudy dark orange body with a short-lived off-white head.
The stuff: Aroma has some fruity yeast a sulphuric smell surrounding notes of peach, citrus and light bubblegum. Taste has lots of minerals with an light undesired acidity, something bordering oxidation (although the bottle was fresh), wheat, some coriander and crushed aspirins. Leaves an overall artificial/industrial impression. Listed here on ratebeer as a Belgian Ale. Whatever. Seems to go by the name Cap Espoir now. Worst attempt at re-branding a lame product with a cool new name since GM came-out with the Saturn line of cars. pootzboy (1048), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada

Decanted a hazey amber-brown...smallish cap..
Aroma: spicy, toasty malts and musty honey tones..very decent.
Peppery mouth feel from the carbonation...front is sweetish and musty with nutty-bready tones from yeast and toasted unmalted grains...later spices add complexity ( corriander?)...finish is dry and a spicy-malt after taste.
Much lighter and drinkable than the heavy Unibroue ales this is a session unfiltered ale....very decent.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 22, 2007 Cap Espoir - 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy, dull light brown. Aroma has some nice yeast to it, but it’s not overly strong. Flavour also has the nice yeastiness to it, although the overall impact is too light and fades too quickly. It’s a bit of a shame as this beer has a nice flavour, it’s just that there’s not enough to it. I think I will let this one warm up a bit more before I finish it.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 22, 2007 Pours hazy cloudy yellow with a foamy head. Nice retention and lace. Strange aroma of yeast and lacto b. Spices and hops with doughy bready aromas. Lemons and other assorted fruits. Tastes too funky and very strange. Lemons and wild yeast with hops bitterness. The yeasty funk is misplaced.Gritty full body in the finish. Lubiere (4550), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 15, 2007 A hazy amber ale with orange hues and a thick big bubbled white head. A lightly spiced aroma, of sweet malt, light fruity esters, and light sulfury notes. In mouth, a rather bland reflection of its past self, Cap Espoir, in my view, is a bland rip off of Unibroue (note the label) with a sligtly sweet malt, light coriander and a rather thin body. Viper666 (630), Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2007 Bouteille.
