Tastes chocolatey and sweet with some fruity hints o the finish. Weird vegetal aftertaste. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Mar 31, 2008 A light beige head tops a black body. The aroma is light roasted coffee with some smoked, honey glazed ham. The taste is bitter, cheap coffee with some woody straw. The finish is like coffee that has been left on the pot all day and boiled down to a gooey tar. The body is highly carbonated. Even with low expectations, this is a let down. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 7, 2009 my 55/60 state/province. I was not expecting too much, there is a home bias to these lesser known craft beers. That was probably the case here. Mistakely drank it as a stout, it is a porter, and fine for the style. Fresh taste, thank you, but also a bit watery and aggessive carbonation. after4ever (2828), Brier, Washington, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 23, 2009 Pitch black coloured body with a thinnish light-brown head - looks pretty sinister! Aroma of roasted malt, raisins, pit fruit, smoke, meat and a bit of mushrooms. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavours up front with a deep raisiny and sweet finish and some malt and metal finishing it out. Aftertaste shows a lot of roasty and almost smokey flavours with some nice sweetness at the end, in addition to a little vanilla and oak. Overall, not a bad beer- good to sample, and showing some moderate complexity. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased over a year ago on 25-March-2008 at Goebel Liquor in Wichita, Kansas, sampled at home in Washington on 22-May-2009. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2007 Reminds me quite a bit of Four Finger Stout, but a little less body and character. Pours a very dark brown, small but tight layer of khaki foam. Aroma is mostly roasty, touches of chocolate and molasses. Flavor much the same, soft carbonation, near velvety mouthfeel, slightly astringent finish with plenty of roast. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 30, 2008 12oz. bottle. Aroma is fairly slight, just some cocoa and dark, roasty malts along with a touch of yeast. Opaque ebony color with a fine, subsiding tan head. Bottle-conditioned. Flavor is largely bitter and dry, both from the earthy hops and highly-kilned malt, very faint touches of dark chocolate sweetness present far in the background, otherwise the dark black, nearly charred roastiness reigns here. Palate is thin, sharp and has a rather pronounced bite to it, while the body is light-medium. Lingering leafy, spicy hoppy flavors late. Really pretty drinkable, for all that. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA

Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Light body and carbonation. Smoke, coffee and pine in the nose and taste. Not so great a brew but you gotta love the label.
