Loads of dark colored sediment in the glass. The nose is like grape juice with some hints of bread crust and almonds. The taste has toffee, black tea and mild mandarin oranges. There is also a little bit of cardboard, but it is faint. Other than the off putting visible sediment, I actually like this beer.

This was an old bottle but stood up reasonably to the test of time. Toffee caramel with smooth malts, some roasted notes but also a boiled cardboard taste too. Short on the finish. Reasonable. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 8, 2005 Dark Amber brew head faded to quickly to describe.Aroma was malt and sultanas
subtle hints of sherry (oxidised) The taste was mostly caramel the hops had faded long ago adding only a slight spiciness in the finish.I think this would be a lot better fresher.(duh!) lizzy (44), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2005 Aroma is definitely sweet caramel, flavor is sweet, some hops. Not great, but I don’t feel ripped off. I really have nothing else to say about it. sethdude (601), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 16, 2005 Good, but nothing to write home about. Pours a shoe-polish brown with a fair head, a few sediments. Aroma is very toffeeish, mild hops compliment. Flavor is malty and sweet, giving way to a grassy hoppy section, ends a little metallic. Tasty, though nothing special. AlchemistZ (493), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 6, 2004 Bottled version: A red/copper color with an off-white head. Aroma is strongly English-very earthy, spicy, mentholated hop and sweet malt (subtle, soft caramel/toffee). Flavor contains much of the aroma with the bonus of an omnipresent dry, bicuity, salted pretzel malt and an underpinning of tropical fruit. Bitterness is perfectly appetizing. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 3, 2004 Bottled. A small sized off-white head that was frothy and contained fine-medium sized bubbles that mostly diminished. The body was uncarbonated and transparent with an orange-brown hue. The aroma was hoppy, sweet, and notes of sugar. The taste was lightly sweet, malty and finished a little bitter. The mouthfeel was smooth and thin. This was a light-medium bodied beer with fair lacing.
