Cask at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes, Wetherspoons Festival ’07. Only a taster as I wasn’t in the mood for 8.5%. Dark red brown with a small off white head. Sweet malty aroma. Roasted malt taste with liquorice, dark fruits like Christmas cake, and a hint of cocoa. Delightful, warming and luxurious.

Castle Hotel, Manchester. Dark ochre hue topped by a small off-white head. A rather bready nose with a blast of straightforward caramel sugariness. Not as complex as expected, barely a hint of berries peak through the fat, almost chewy toasted malts that ultimately feel a bit one-dimensional. Full-bodied bordering syrupiness.

Cask at the White Horse, Parson’s Green, 28th Jan 2007. Very dark ruby appearance. Aroma is like sniffing a freshly baked rich fruit cake! The flavour is superb - rich and full, hints of grapes, blackcurrant, raspberries and more. The feel is slick and smooth, like a good barley wine. Superb stuff and better than the bottled version for sure.

[CASK: Castle Hotel, Manchester 08/10/06] A incedibly strong and dark ale that will send you loopy. A great ale if you like it strong... not the sort of ale you could drink alright but you havn’t lived if you havn’t tried it!
