hughie (2205), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Nov 22, 2007 Cask at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes, Wetherspoons Festival ’07. Only a taster as I wasn’t in the mood for 8.5%. Dark red brown with a small off white head. Sweet malty aroma. Roasted malt taste with liquorice, dark fruits like Christmas cake, and a hint of cocoa. Delightful, warming and luxurious. Rastacouere (5270), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 25, 2007 Castle Hotel, Manchester. Dark ochre hue topped by a small off-white head. A rather bready nose with a blast of straightforward caramel sugariness. Not as complex as expected, barely a hint of berries peak through the fat, almost chewy toasted malts that ultimately feel a bit one-dimensional. Full-bodied bordering syrupiness. Ethereal (894), London, Greater London, England Aug 27, 2007 Cask at the White Horse, Parson’s Green, 28th Jan 2007. Very dark ruby appearance. Aroma is like sniffing a freshly baked rich fruit cake! The flavour is superb - rich and full, hints of grapes, blackcurrant, raspberries and more. The feel is slick and smooth, like a good barley wine. Superb stuff and better than the bottled version for sure. jammin7jg (139), Withington, Manchester, England May 3, 2007 [CASK: Castle Hotel, Manchester 08/10/06] A incedibly strong and dark ale that will send you loopy. A great ale if you like it strong... not the sort of ale you could drink alright but you havn’t lived if you havn’t tried it! cgarvieuk (2384), Edinburgh, Scotland Apr 22, 2007 A deep red colour, thats sweet malt aroma, with a rich syrupy rich deep malt flavour
