Nose has a resemblance to anejo tequila, raisins, and baked desserts.
On the palate dark coca, roasted malt, tawny port (not to be confused with ruby!) and reduced calorie maple syrup. Body is a little on the thin side but it enhances the drinkability.
Finish is peaceful and gradual in flavor dissipation. I notice a caramelly and light cinnamony peppery sweetness that fades into a pleasant malt extract-like cloying sweetness. Nice.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 27, 2009 Bottle at Pub Italia - Damn, this is a strong beer. Great pour that is black with a brownish head that doesn’t entirely go away. Strong smell of fruits, earth, wood, and alcohol. The taste allows the alcohol to really stand out, but that doesn’t disguise the fact that it is very complex right down to the last sip with lots of dark fruits like prunes, raisins, etc. Bitter, but still very well balanced for how strong it is. The palate is godly along the lines that it actually calms your mouth and stomach down. A work of art. TheJester (716), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 23, 2009 330 mL bottle at St Veronus. (Perhaps unfairly sampled just before a Westy 12). Dark brown, nice head, lots of sediment. Lovely aroma with lots of dried fruit and caramel, alcohol and yeast. Flavour is not as full and complex as the Westy, but it is still an incredibly powerful beer, with dark roasted fruit, caramel, licorice, alcohol, and yeast. Mouthfeel is full, but not as velvety as the Westy. But by any other comparison, this is an outstanding adult beverage. birgen (2), , Belgium does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jul 23, 2009 I’ve had a lot, but this one stands above all! You start off with a trilling sensation, but above all, the tang finishes it all of. smashed420 (22), Canada

High carbonation helps form a huge foam that dissipates in a vevetty off-white layer.
Dark toffee sweet smell and tastes. Palate is somewhat thin, and finishes velvetty with perfectly balanced bitterness. A huge array of aromas and tastes, feels like a candy shop! Amazingly, the alcohol is barely noticeable. ska (129), Italy
