Commercial Description:
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

33cl bottle, dark brown color, medium brownish and creamy head, strong and complex aroma of raisins and licorice with caramel, yeast and roasted notes, spiced sweet flavor with hops presence, medium body and carbonation, big finish with spices and warming alcohol, wine notes aftertaste, really amazing beer, more than expected (I know, is in 6th place overall but I’m always suspicious)

Pours very dark with a soft off-white head forming atop leaving a thin white layer over time. The aroma is fantastic! It smells a bit like jam from the huge aromas of plums and there’s a brandy aroma that is equally as strong and amazing. These aromas really strike out and grab your attention. Other sweet dark fruits like figs and dates really come together nicely alongside the deep rich caramel and nutty aromas. The nose is just incredible! I could sit and take in whiffs of this all day long! The carbonation is rather lively on the palate. Again, the taste is very plumy and the other dark fruits are very noticeable. The brandy comes through a little as well, but the rich nuttiness and the sweet dark fruits really come out. It’s rather soft on the palate and a little sweet in the finish.

Pours dark brown with massive head. Aroma of dark fermented fruit. Taste of the same with a lot of complexity that is hard to put a finger on, I did get a slight taste of leather even though I do not know what leather taste like, but it was in a good way.

Aroma of apricot, fermented fruit and cherries. Appearance is very dark brown with a nice head. The flavor is sweet, prune, liquorish and alcohol, also a bit sour aftertaste. This is a real classic. However the different bottles seem to differ a bit. This was not the best bottle I’ve had.

Bottle at Winking Lizard Crosswoods location. Opaque brown pour with a huge tan head. Sorta of tart aroma that is also very creamy and yeasty. Notes of alcohol and dark fruits as well. Creamy and yeasty flavor with a touch of sourness and alcohol. Dark fruits and a bit of chocolate in there.

Finally tried this classic brew after seeing it come and go too many times from my store. Dark cloudy brown, almost black. Nice thick head that appropriately coats the glass. I was surprised by the nose. The aromas were more of dark fruits like cassis, plum, dark cherries, and raisins. I was expecting more maltiness, brown sugar, and molasses. Pleasantly surprised. The mouth feel was my favorite part of the beer. Rich and creamy with impeccable balance. For 11.3% the alcohol flavors are almost non existent. I think this bottle was young though, because the complexities were not quite there yet. Still a wonderful brew. Great experience. Drank next to a Avery Reverend (quad as well). No comparison what so ever. The Rochefort blows it away.
