The aroma is light and sweet with caramell, herbs and a very small hint of banana. The taste is sweet, with herbs, raisins and caramell. sdriessen (208), Dunedin, New Zealand

Bready, chocolate malt and yeast nose. Dried fruit: raisin and prune, caramel dates. Fresh fruits include plum and boysenberry. Spices of clove and pepper, compliment subtle aromas of whiskey and oak.
Flavours are full of alcohol which successfully transmit raisin, prune and overripe strawberries throughout the palate. Vinous tones seem to cling to the tongue.
Mild spices of clove and aniseed with a golden syrup sweetness.
Before and during the finish I found a bitterness of black coffee, which introduces a mellow, bready yeast.
Far too complex to describe everything, this beer is full bodied, ridiculously complex and dangerously drinkable... More? No.. They have not diverged from the traditional trappist ways and offer a rich complex beverage matched only by Westvleteren. I just drank a 1993 bottle and still believe this was their best year. 1010 (208), Marysville, Ohio, USA

Very complex in nose and flavor. poured with a huge head. tons of lacing. raisin/prune, hint of fig, subtle yeasty notes. dark fruits on the tongue, nice malty sweetness with a touch of dark chocolate one the front. spiciness follows, and a bit of caramel sneaks in the backdoor. incredibly balanced. goes down Way too easy, for how much this brew has to say. mikkopen (264), Oulu, Finland
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 31, 2009 330 ml bottle. Cloudy dark brown, with a medium-sized light brown head. Delicious aroma of dark fruits, nuts, caramel, yeast and some alcohol. The flavour is dominated by toasted malts, nuts and dark fruits. There is also chocolate, orange, banana and countless other nuances. A truly excellent beer, complex and balanced. Guerde (706), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 29, 2009 (bottle) Well, I finally got around to rating this one. Pours dark brown with an off-white head and adequate lacing. Aroma of walnut and light chocolate, with a significant amount of alcohol. Warming reveals stronger scents of chocolate and light yeast, but nothing else. Not really impressed with the aroma. The taste is a different story however, and is a complete 180 from the aroma. The flavor begins with plenty of dark fruits like plum and raisin, which then switches to chocolate, light wine, and finishing out with toasted walnut and bready yeast that really lingers well after drinking. All in all, a good beer, but the aroma wasn’t impressive, and the beer itself was overcarbonated.
