No visible carbonation. Aroma is fantastic, the highlight of this beer. Caramel and molasses, raisins and prunes, fruity and phenolic, hints of spices, rich and sweet. Flavor is a multitude of stewed fruits and brown sugar. Surprisingly little alcohol is apparent for 11% beer. Palate is smooth and dry with balanced carbonation. Linnet (120), Umeå, Sweden
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 9, 2009 medium creamy tan head, deep bromnish/reddish colour, there is precipitation in the liquid, guess that it is due to the fermentation? Aroma of dark fruit, alcohol and spices. Aroma is less sweet than many other beers in the same category even though it is clearly present in this one too. Taste is really nice, dark fruit, alcohol, spices and orange? Mouthfeel is lively, but not as lively as the rochefort 8, this is good, cause I think rochefort 8 isn’t very good. This is by far the best belgian beer I’ve tried!

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Pours cloudy, rich dark-brown, with a sudsy beige one-finger head, some chunky sediment, excellent lasting lacing. Smells of nutmeg, sour apple, cinnamon, caramel, sour dough bread, grass, and alcohol. Medium-thick, velvety body, gentle carbonation. The malt profile explodes with spectacular complexity, plum, apple, nutmeg, pear, banana, caramel, well balanced with some grassy and citrus hop notes. Has a lingering sweet fruit flavor. soccer290 (137), Highland Park, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 9, 2009 12 oz bottle. Was very excited to try this, knowing how highly ranked it is. Pours a dark brown with very little light-tan-colored head. Effervescent (yes, I stole this word from another rater). VERY strong smell of plum, red grapes, and raisins. First sip, and the word "WOW" came off my mouth. The amount of flavor with raisins, sugar, malt, and still grape (though it could be black currant), plus how tingly it is on the tongue (gotta love that effervescence). I guess for a lot of people would think that it is tough to take down (in finish), but I’m kind of used to it (drink way too much Chimay Red). Overall a very good beer, and I can see why its so highly rated. DalzAle (494), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Bottle. Very dark brown poor with very effervescent carbonation. Rich aromas of plums, sweet malts and some noticeable alcohol. Flavor was smooth malts, brown sugar, dark rum and definite raisins; mouth feel finished dry. No surprise this is a top 10 beer, all around solid quad.. luttonm (307), Belgrade, Serbia
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Stark 1:1 contrast pour, so pretty. Big heavy bubbles. Nose of leather, licorice, smoke. Sweeping, expanding effervescence with rush of sugary smoke and dark, candied fruits. Very crisp (fresh bottle?), notes of grape and peat. Big, refined .. tasty but a bit too toasty for my palate. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 6, 2009 the best of the imported belgian quads, very dark pour, i like this beer about as much as their eight due to the higher alcohol content but the eight has a better flavor.
