| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 3, 2009 33 cl bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Lot L120912 11:42.
App.: Very, very deep brown with a large tan head.
Aroma: Lots of sweet smells, plenty of dark dried fruits, some nice wooden rum notes, a bit of vanilla, some minty herbals, molasses, a little alcohol, caramel/toffee, maybe a touch of butterscotch?, a bit of chocolate, some yeast/bread dough.
Palate: Medium+ body with moderate effervescence and a few sharp bubbles.
Flav.: A little nutty, quite sweet and fruity, plenty of minty herbals, molasses, a bit of vanilla, wood and rum-like flavours, the fruits lend themselves a bit more towards berries than dark dried fruits, some light yeast notes, definitely some alcohol; fairly sweet with enough bitterness to balance, quite a bit of warming, almost stinging alcohol and a pleasant licorice/molasses/wood/sherry finish.
Quite the beer. Very complex and quite enjoyable. Gotta be honest though, the alcohol presence does detract from the overall experience. dekeq (35), New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2009 The brew is a very elegant looking one with an opaque, brown coloring. You can still see the yeast in the bottle seeing as it is bottle-brewed. The head does also last quite a while in a nice off-white tint. This is a very complicated brew though. The smell was a mix of pretty much everything and I couldn’t pinpoint one single thing. It had hops and yeast in the nose as well as being a little sweet, though. The first taste is the taste of air in the carbonation followed by a brown sugar taste. There is also a very prevalent taste of the hops in the brew and an alcoholic ending that was evident, but not overpowering. The texture was all you could hope for in a brew like this. Smoothness is top-notch. Every flavor follows through smoothly between each other and even though the brew is very complex, it finds some way to make everything work. coldbrewky (736), Saugerties, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 1, 2009 Light earthy nose mingled with rain. Thinner tan head sits upon a cloudy brown. Cinnamon upfront in this spicy and tingling medium bodied brew. Dark fruit swirls about the mouth making me feel dizzy. Props to the Bonster for the bottle. dykhuis7 (9), New York, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 30, 2009 Updated: Nov 27, 2009Pours an opaque caramel-brown color with a thin head. The alcohol is very apparent initially in the aroma and flavor. They tend to wane (as your senses dull?). Such a complex array of other aromas and flavors. The fruity bouquet is soothing as an aroma, and titillating on the palate. This is a beer that got better as it went on, new flavors and aromas becoming apparent in each subsequent sip. A great beer. wattersla (11), Los Angeles, California, USA
