The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Bottle. Deep dark brown. Plenty of yeast sediment causes some cludiness. Large coffee coloured head that slowly fades to leave some lacing. Aroma is a little sweet and sour Lots of malt, dark fruits, vanilla and candii sugar, but also a little vinegar. Plenty of alcohol and fruity esters from the yeast complete the picture.. Flavours are very much in line with the aromas. Dark fruits, malt and heaps of alcohol on the finish, Extremely well balanced. Great beer.

Bottle -- Deep, dark brown appearance. Drinks with a thick malt syrup character, rich with alcohol and dark fruits. Piles of candied sugar as well. Exceptionally well rounded classic. (#3712, 10/24/2009)

dark chocolatey brown pour, slight off white head. Aroma is of dark fruits, dark sugary fruits; dried plums and raisins and lots of booooze. Flavor is just as smoothy and yummy, still the dark fruity flavors of the raisins and plums or figs, nice smooth sweetness to counteract the booziness but still has that heat with a lil spice. Very nice.

Dark Brown pour with a slight beige head. Aroma is dark candi sugars, plum fruit and booze. Brown sugar and some Belgian yeast abound. First Taste is a shock of brown sugar and yeast, some booze follows. Slightly effervescent. The fruit is mostly plum and raisin, very vinous in nature. Incredibly complex and yet simultaneously simple and refreshing. A perfect Abt if there ever was one.

This beer is well balanced with malts, fruits, spices, hops, and candies. The carbonation is excellent. The small bubble tingle. The alcohol content is masked with the combination of flavors, but is present when you breath in the beer over your tounge. This beer would go great with a leg of lamb!!

Bottle at pub in Belgium. Wow, this made my trip to Belgium worth it. This was an awesome beer. From the pour which was dark brown color with a nice creamy head with lots of lace left in the glass. The aroma was bold with plenty of malt. The taste was well balanced with malts and hops with Belgium sugar.

Drank it just two hours after bottle was turned upside down during travel home. Murky mahogany appearance; clouded by bottle yeasts but who care? I was happy to HAVE those yeasts! Great head! Impeccable balance and ’CLASSIC’ Belgian notes. Nuances of dried stone fruits, chocolate. Deep malty background with distinguished fruity ester notes in aroma! Outstanding! Wish I could afford to drink two of THESE everyday...
