Commercial Description:
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Dark, murky brown and a big tan head. Alcohol, molasses, anise, earthy aroma. Complex flavor profile of dark fruits, port wine, licorice and a surprisingly subtle alcohol presence. Light, fine carbonation balances a medium/full body. The finish dries out, leaving a lasting wonderfull bitterness. Re-rated 5/27/07. My first rating of this beer still is pretty much unchanged. However, I did not fully appreciate the richness of the mouthfeel. The fruity flavors and aromas are just immense in this beer. I let the bottle warm for nearly an hour before opening, as it had been in my beer fridge for a few days. The finish is only lightly bitter, with a pleasing, but not overpowering dryness.

33cl bottle, deep redbrown, honeytaste evolving to a fruity(pear,banana,raison) taste and a hint of black chocolate. long aftertaste.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Poured a very dark brown virtually black colour with a dissipating tan head. Aroma was yeast, hops, brown sugar, citrus, plum and brandy sodden dark fruit. Very rich man. Flavour was beautiful, loads going down; yeast, roasted malt, chocolate, blackcurrant, citrus, grape, booze. Awesome !! Brooding, long bittersweet finish. There can’t be many better beers in the style. Hats off to the Monks again !

(bottle) murkiest, darkest red–brown hue, frothy mahogany head, great lacing. hop spices dominate the aroma, along with faint hints of chocolate, toffee, cinnamon, cloves, raisins, dark fruit and alcohol. flavour has a well-rounded chocolate, dark fruit and toffee base, lots of hop spices, alcohol, fresh malts and a yeasty breadiness - the blend changes with every sip, very complex. body is heavy, with quite a bit of alcohol and a sweet-bitter warming finish. superb!

Pours a dark plum color from the bottle with a frothy tan head of foam that darkens as it dissapates. Smells of cider and meat with flavors of dark cocoa, potato, raisins, and apple in the taste. Very earthy with a healthy amount of sediment at the bottom of the glass. Certainly worth returning to in the near future.

Bottle from Cheesy, Prague. Deep dark brown in color; nose of mincemeat, Christmas pudding, figs in the packinghouse, the still-juicy, half-cooked point midway from grapes to raisins. In the mouth, more fruit (orange peel, slivovice) and great tannic notes rinsing to an evenly balanced finish with just a touch of bitter back-bite. Is she difficult? Yeah. But she’s worth it.
