App.: Very, very deep brown with a large tan head.
Aroma: Lots of sweet smells, plenty of dark dried fruits, some nice wooden rum notes, a bit of vanilla, some minty herbals, molasses, a little alcohol, caramel/toffee, maybe a touch of butterscotch?, a bit of chocolate, some yeast/bread dough.
Palate: Medium+ body with moderate effervescence and a few sharp bubbles.
Flav.: A little nutty, quite sweet and fruity, plenty of minty herbals, molasses, a bit of vanilla, wood and rum-like flavours, the fruits lend themselves a bit more towards berries than dark dried fruits, some light yeast notes, definitely some alcohol; fairly sweet with enough bitterness to balance, quite a bit of warming, almost stinging alcohol and a pleasant licorice/molasses/wood/sherry finish.
Quite the beer. Very complex and quite enjoyable. Gotta be honest though, the alcohol presence does detract from the overall experience.

Pours with an enormous and thick light tan head, beer is cloudy, very dark brown colour. Complex aroma: oak, port wine, dried fruit and spices. Taste is spice, raisins, port and oak - toffee sweetness is well balanced with hops. Long lasting aftertaste. Delicious weihenweizen (45), West Virginia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Refrigerated bottle poured into a trappist glass. Pours a dark brown completely opaque with little head that disappeared quickly. Nice lacy and unbelievable mouth feel. The aroma is earthy with a hint of alcohol. The taste is wonderfully complex and is pretty easy to drink considering the ABV. The flavor is malt (tone is mostly molasses), dried fruit (tones of figgs, plums etc.), and a hint of spice. Best quad I have had. brokephibroke (146), Mead, Colorado, USA

Palate is a clear 5, bright and coating. Flavor is complex and delicious - dried fruit and nuts. mmm mmm mmm. Chalsk (19), North Caldwell, New Jersey, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 22, 2009 Very delicious beer. Roasty, floral aroma. Great thick chocolate like appearance, with a thick foam. Malty flavor with hints of caramel, roast, malt, sublte coffee notes. More of a flat feel on the palate, but still full, with a long malty finish. A unique beer that warms you. arrogantb (714), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2009 33cl bottle $7.19, I have been meaning to try this for a while. Turbid brown despite my attempt to keep the yeast out, almost black, flimsy head. It smells like vinegar and pickles at first but as it warms up it becomes sweet candied spices. the flavor has a quad-like sweetness but it also has a strong black licorice quality to it. The alcohol is not blatant but I know it is there because I can feel it. Overall I liked Rochefort 8 more. Slightly murky appearance, but a strong head that lasts leaving lacing on the glass. Heady sweet aroma, and intense initial taste of plummy sweetness. Satisfyingly full mouthfeel without being heavy, silky. Fantastic. bogus (30), Zeist, Netherlands

Folks if you want a cheaper alternative to Wety then go for this. It is on a par with Grand Pannepot Reserve 2006. I love this beer. Poured from bottle into my old yellow emblem Rochefort glass. Good times.
