Wow. Pours a stunning dark ruby with a good, thick, off-white head. Aroma is sweet grapes, black cherries, port wine, raisins, figs and other dark fruits, melded perfectly with Belgian yeast and malts. Flavor is just incredible - takes all the notes from the aroma and adds roasty, slightly smoky malts, a bit of bourbon, and brings out the Belgian yeast a bit more. The mouthfeel is perfect - thick, full, but dry and not too heavy. It leaves you salivating, wanting the next sip. The carbonation isn’t overbearing. This is utterly fantastic - I will always want more of this beer. As of the tasting, this is my new favorite overall, beating out St. Bernardus’ Abt. 12. Just delicious.

Aug 25, 2008 pours a dark murky brown with a boisterous frothy head, slow to dissipate. Great aroma- can smell it from 4 feet away, but still smooth and not over-aggressive. Notes of raisin, caramel, malt. Flavor is otherworldly- aggressive alcohol, some vinous qualities, malt, raisin, dark fruit, sweet molasses. Unfairly good. Palate is wondrous, sticky but oh so gentle on the tongue. Probably my favorite beer ever.

Aug 25, 2008 I don’t know what else I could say besides that this is definitely the best beer I ever tasted. Pure flavor coming from many different sources. Very thick fruity start and a satisfying spicy finish. At almost $7 a bottle I only had one but was plenty warm once I was finished. Worth the wait!!!

Aug 25, 2008 Well here it is, the legend in the flesh. Id be lying if I didnt say I wasnt a slight bit disspointed in this. But when you have heard so much good things, you are bound for a bit of a letdown. The beer is fantastic and complex though. Very fruity with a long bitter finish. Also one of the best looking beers in a glass.

cherries, spicy, caramel, chocolate maybe some plum in there as well. Excellent beer
an all time favorite.

Aug 24, 2008 aroma dominated by nutty and dark fruity flavors. nice. hazy very very dark brown, bordering black. rather large light-brown head. flavor is very interesting. it didn’t taste like it was strong, but i could feel the alc. at once in the body. alc. unbeliveably well hidden.. taste is balanced so well i have a hard time figuring what this great taste is composed of. palate a little bit watery, overall an impressive brew, not the best i ever tasted but VERY good, even for a belgian.
