| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2009 Smells and drinks like a wine. Pit fruits (grapes, plums, cherries) and malts dominate the flavor and aroma. Alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you by the end of one of these bad boys. Overall I didn’t find it as fantastic as its billing suggests but I’ll gladly drink another anytime. A truly unique brew.

Aroma fueled by carbs, yeasty and chocolaty. Sediment suspended in fluid. Bitter taste complexed with a medium sweetness from caramel, fruit, and malt. The alcohol content is very high, but is well layered into the flavors. A little too stouty for my taste. This is basically a much better produced/brewed 1554 Excellent beer, but I guess I prefer Chimay’s drinkability and slightly lighter bitterness. jeff789 (422), Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Pours a hazy brown with a decent sized tan head, very viscous.... Aroma is dominated by cherries and dark fruits, subtly sweet, with a booziness to the aroma... Flavors are quite complex, subtly hoppy, with notes of dark fruits and sweet malts coming through differently each sip... Very carbonated, with a dry finish, medium bodied... The high level of carbonation was a bit of a turn off... mbgrayson (150), Anaconda, Montana, USA

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Aroma is crisp, strong, fruity and malty with just a whisper of sweetness. It pours a hazy, barely translucent, dark coppery brown with a very thick and pale tan head. Flavor is malty and fruity with a hint of caramel and a fierce but not overwhelming alcohol bite. Texture is very smooth, yet quite fizzy and tingly, leaving a satisfying and lip-smacking finish with fruity and caramel hints as well as a touch of sweetness. ZTO (16), Alberta, Canada
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 27, 2009 poured with a thick creamy tan head that didn’t move. lasted like budding sun rays on the 8th hour of a gloomy, cloud swarmed day hahahahaha. seriously tho, this brew has a rich, extremely ark brown colour, and the head shows the evidence of its sediment throughout. smell boasts fruits all the way, and are complimented by incredible hops, with a hint of alcohol. the taste. incredible sweetness. i can’t pick out the complexities of the taste, but all i can say is hot damn! can taste a bit of alcohol in the sweets, but not at all overpowering. insanely smooth and creamy. lacing is great, and man, that head just won’t vanish. halfonit (483), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2009 A very cloudy dark brown color. Aroma is yeast, alcohol, and some sweeter spices. Flavor is of dried fruit, alcohol, yeast, and raisins. Has a sweeter yet strong alcohol flavor in the end. It definitely lets you know that you are consuming a real beer. Good stuff. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Enjoyed from an 11.2oz bottle in a whiskey snifter. The beer pours a deep brown color, with a thick light tan head. A very strong alcohol note greets the nose up front, followed by more mellow aromas of raisons, prunes, and slightly burnt caramel. The palate also features alchohol, although in the finish, and proceeded by a splendid melange of malts, and a perfect level of carbonation. Overall, worth the wait and hype, and surely a beer that would continue to improve with age. TeamTrappist (413), jericho, New York, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Bottle. Not sure why I never got around to this but.... Pours a cloudy rich mahogany with no head. Nose is sweet with belgian yeast and candied sugars.Lightly carbonated and Richly flavored with dark fruits and candied sugars. Refined and sweet with a hint of the abv. A must try. A beer that others are judged against.
