Rochefort Trappistes 6

Pours a burned reddish brown with a light brown head and some lacing. Medium bodied and lively with aromas of caramel, cinnamon with a little alcohol. Tastes of spice, fruit and malty sweetness with a hoppy finish.

This beer has a muddy brown appearance with a thick tan head. Some thick gray flocks of yeast float happily around. Aroma is very complex, roasted malt, dark fruits, licorice, raisins, stophoest and a bit vanilla. Flavor is a bit minty chocolate, roasted malt, quite sweet, spicy, delicate but complex. Low carbonation and a sweet long spicy finish.

Pours a murky brown rust with a moderately persistent tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, earth, and musk. Flavor of pear and raisin with some notes of caramel and grape. Champagne like bubbles of carbonation. Tart finish.

Bottle. I really like this beer but I just wish it was a little less expensive. Nice fruity, flavor with hints of chocolate, vanilla, and dates. Highly recommended.

App.: Clear deep copper with a fair light tan head. Aroma: Very bright fruitiness, some darker dried fruits, molasses, slightly minty, a touch buttery, a bit of alcohol, a touch of chocolate and vanilla, a bit vinous, a touch of wood. Palate: Medium body, fairly lively effervescence. Flav.: Similar to the nose with plenty of buttery fruitiness, some darker malts, some leafy hops, a bit of mint, a little alcohol, some light chocolate and vanilla, mainly bright fruits though; sweet with very little bitterness, light wood, molasses and alcohol to finish.

A fairly well-crafted Dubbel.

Oluthuone Helsinki bottle: Clear dark red with a white head. Crispy tasty malty. ligthly sweet coke-like? heavenly rich and full, and not too overwhelming - fresh and light

Slightly musty brown sugar aroma with milk chocolate undertones. Cloudy ochre with chunks, enormous tan head. Hyperalcoholic feel to it. Dusty pear flavor with a chestnut finish. I completely poured it wrong but aside from that, this was quite enjoyable. Not terribly complex and the alcohol was obtrusive, but it still tasted good.

This reddish-brown colored Trappist beer has a great caramel/nutty taste...a bit bitter on the finish, but an overall excellent beer. My favorite (along with Chimay Blue) among the Trappist beers. While Rochefort 10 is frequently ranked higher, I find #6 to be much better...
