Beautiful appearance and very complex flavor, and a great aroma. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys beer. yalnikim (783), Wellington, New Zealand

Can’t say I was impressed with this, it really tasted like little more than a watered down version of the big brother. Has the appropriate flavours but to predominantly notice a carbonated water character in a 7.5% beer is not all that appealing. It’s not bad but it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. Perhaps I was feeling a little harsh... sdriessen (208), Dunedin, New Zealand

Mild aromas of leathery yeast, malt and dark fruits such as plum.
Some spices are present in the aroma, clove and aniseed with floral notes.
Taste is slightly fruity with apple and a leathery yeast is prominent. An oak malt flavour engulfs the palate. Obvious alcohol. Has a peppery sort of spiciness that becomes greater as it warms. Caramel and toffee in the finish.
Very nice. Nightfall (647), Athens, Greece

A fine dubbel. Burgundy-amber colored beautiful beige head. Aromas of red forest fruits and some caramel. Sweet malty taste, yeast. Nice porterhouse (1163), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2008 Pours murky slightly amberish brown with one finger of tan head that recedes to about one-eighth inch of lasting cap. Aroma is a bit mild but features brown sugar, dark fruit and chocolate. Mouthfeel smooth and quite soft, almost buttery. Very fine, light bubble carbonation. Nice, light fine weepy rings of lacing. Flavor is light brown sugar and chocolate, a bit of malty licorice, dark fruit, hints of red wine. ABV well-hidden. Tasty and well-crafted but seems a little meek in comparison to many Belgians. 330 ml bottle from Julios Liquors, cellared for 10 mos. after purchase. nate2g (1140), Brisbane, Australia
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2008 Pours burgundy with a rich beige head. Pleasant aroma with malt, plum, raisin, brown sugar and a hint of alcohol. Malts, dark fruits and yeasty flavour with chocolate in the end. Thin and watery texture with some lingering acidity in the finish. MrChopin (687), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Ruby-ish brown with a small, foamy off-white head. Nose is creamy and buttery, somewhat off-putting but more tolerable with warmth. It also contains raisin, sugar, slight fruit, bread, and significant alcohol. Flavor is similar with more alcohol, less cream, and more of the traditional dark fruit/raisin. Palate is quite watery and the finish is very short and quite dull save for slight alcohol and a solid malt presence. Still a good beer, but nowhere near the bigger ones.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2008 Bottled. A Cloudy brown color with a nice beige head, but not too persistent. Aroma is complex, Sweety with notes of toffee, chocolate and some fruit. Flavor is sweet with pretty much like the aroma, wit a medium carboantion. Mouthfeel is amazing looks like Carolus, with a Toffee finish. Good Beer!
