Maybe the complex 8 and 10 make you feel this is a ’Rochefort Light’ but the head waz fizzy and shallow , not like the big ass beige beer heads on the other 2 Rocheforts, maybe its symbolic of lack of magic. But this is still a 7.5 % Abbey ale -not exactly limp. Aromas of spice, bitter chocolate , corriander ,floral hops. The palate is a bit thin...chalky chocolate ...raisins and spice..a bit too much h2o ..... DeanF (330), Paris, France
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2009 Pours like dark mud into a chalice, nice foaming, nice bubbling. The aroma doesn’t have much on it, however - just some coriander and alcohol. The tase is still divine, however, with lots of malts, caramel, and hops. Very drinkable but not as complex as its bigger brothers, but makes a good session beer. Problem is that it will likely cost you as much as the other two as well. Aroma is very fruity. Raisin and black berry.
Flavour is roasted malt, light nut and toffee sweetness. Dark fruity flavours towards the finish which is a little dry.
solid dubbel with a great aroma and decent flavour. grikmok (93), Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 20, 2009 Poured into a trappist glass and aromas of berries and raisins. Initial flavors of fruits and ended bitter sweet with prominent taste of yeast. Not a bad beer, though I was hoping for more. Feinschmecker (190), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 20, 2009 I had this at a gas station/cafe on the side of the interstate highway in Belgium. It somehow makes sense. Amber- brown color with a yeasty aroma filled with fruits and caramel. The carbonation of this beer elevated this beer and prevents it from being cloying or too sweet with a dry finish, which makes you want more. Awesome beer. boFNjackson (1323), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Bottle... Poured deep brownish/amber with a khaki head. Aroma of prunes and a big Belgian, yeast and malt quality. Well carbonated with flavors of berry fruits and other dark fruits. Sweeter malts and and a fruit juice quality. A little bit of hops, but just utilitarian and not so much for flavor dominance. Overall a dry, well ester-ed dubbel with a nice kick to it. craftbeerdesign (769), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2009 bottle. pours a deep brown with a quarter inch tan head... some nut, Belgian yeast and dark fruit aromas... medium body with an almost tart apple presence... big nutty flavor, somewhat sweet malt character with lingering caramel... a bit thin on the finish but finishes strong in flavor... solid Dubbel which really sets a standard. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2009 fizzy amber brown pour, with a present fizzy head. Lots of sweet caramel, raisin notes, and a nutty character as well all blending very nicely. Very effervescent upfront, still lots of caramel sweetness, but more of a red fruit notes, of cranberry or raspberry, with lots of bread and yeastyness. Very enjoyable.
