On the light side of dark brown, if that makes sense, very sedimented and with a big rich head. Deep malty, fruity aroma with rich plum, brown sugar, light toffee, raisin, peach and faint pear, alcohol and doughy yeast. Sweet malts in the body mix with a surprising tartness (mainly yeastiness). Fruits are subdued but still there (plum, pear). The malts seem subdued by a bit of wateriness...this is a 7.5% beer my I remind you so that’s a shocker but I may be viewing this flavour profile vis-a-vis its bigger brothers without realizing it. Anyway, a solid, sessionable trappist brune.

Aug 27, 2008 Pours a cloudy brown color with virtually no head. Very pleasant sweet aroma. Tastes of caramel and fruit. Slighty bitter finish.

Aug 27, 2008 I have to say, this beer always disappoints me a bit. The 8 and 10 are among my all-time favourites, but this one just won’t do. Murky brown colour, beige head. Aroma of malts, some chocolate. Lively carbonation. Flavour is roasted malts, bit of dark fruits, lots of dark chocolate bitterness, some caramel. Very dry.

Aug 18, 2008 11.2 oz bottle which poured a cloudy murky copper red brown. Slight head. Yeasty, spicey, slightly fruity nose. Flavor is on the delicious side of things, with some malts and dried fruits. Some sweetness. A nice summer alternative to the 8 and 10, but who’s kidding who, isn’t that why we have air conditioning?

Aug 14, 2008 Pours a murky brown with a thick soapy head which leaves great lacing. Aroma is amazing with hints of grape, cherries, and figs. Medium body. Taste is of sweet caramel and dried fruit. It was missing the depth and the spiciness of the 10 but it is more refreshing and easier to drink. Nice dry finish. Overall, great for the style. They should make an air freshener out of the aroma alone.

color:murky light brown Taste: malty sweetness tickling hops fruity bit spicy, bit sour. Pleasant aftertaste. Served bit too cold. i was expecting bit heavier taste ( I tasted 10 and 8 last year before Ratebeering time).
