A dark butterscotch in color and cloudy with an initailly thick head. Fruity yeasty aromas. Figs and apricots as well as candy sugar. Lively carbonation with a medium and creamy texture. Much like the 8 and 10 yet lighter. Overall very nice but I’d prefer to drink the 10.

Did a Rochefort tasting (6, 8 and 10) with mitchgt. From my notes: Murky brown pour with a tint of yellow and a finger light tan head. Aroma: pear, banana, apricot, buttery, bread and butterscotch. Sweet dark fruit malts up front with big parts bread and yeast. Dry finish. Light to medium creamy buttery texture. Generally comes off rich.

Light but rich flavor--tons of fruit--cherries, other dark fruits. Sweet but controlled and balanced, with a bit sour as well. Really excellent--almost as well made as the stronger ones, though lighter and easy to drink. Under-rated, IMO.

Enjoyed from an 11.2oz bottle in a whiskey snifter. The beer pours a deep ruby color/medium brown, with a substantial and thick off-white head. Notes of yeast-derived esters, the unfermentables of candy sugar, and Belgian character malts to the nose, along with an interesting and slightly odd minty character. The palate expresses many of the flavors advertised in the nose, with said minty character playing a prevalent role, coming close to ruining many of the other very pleasant flavors. Otherwise, the palate is just what one would expect from perhaps the best dubbel in the world: malty, slight hop character; leading to some caramelly brown sugar characters and a slightly sweet finish. Overall, a bit of a disappointment, but a great beer just the same.

330mL Bottle. Rated blind. Ninth out of a set of 12 Abbey Dubbels. Aroma is a unique gingery, lemon-like, uber-hoppy blast. If I didn’t know better, I’d say this was spiced. Musky. Pours a murky mahogany-red, with a quickly faded off-white rim. Weird, flaccid flavor, again with noticeable ginger. Peppery, phenolic and hoppy. Strong raisins, East Kent Goldings hops, and lemon rind. Some oxidation, age, and oddness. The flavors are slightly odd. I like the deeper special b/munich malt dark caramel, raisin quality, but the high, pellet-like hop character and potential ginger addtion has thrown me off a bit. Very active carbonation. This may be the worst yet. It tasted like raw wort all full of fridge stale East Kent Goldings pellet hops and un-fermented malt sugar. Overly sweet. Gross. GUESS: Urthel, St Bernardus, or Binchoise

11 1/5 ounce bottle. Pours a chunky, soupy brown with a small tan head. Aroma is full of sweet caramel, brown sugar, spoiled cream. Flavor repeats this theme in addition to a little egg white and yeast. Really solid, round flavor. Full mouthfeel, good carbonation. Nothing bad to say here; it’s just very round, very balanced, very good. I could drink this everyday. Overall, excellent.

A murky brown beer with a nice long lasting head. The aroma is fruity, & malty. The taste is very malty, not sweet with some dark fruits, slightly leathery, & a dash of chocolate. Nice mouthfeel.

a very spicy aroma. cinnamon and all spice hits the nose. Dark amber in color with some cloudiness. Nice head with spices floating in the foam. Full bodied mouthfeel with plenty of carbonation present. Flavor is spicy malts with a distinct alcohol taste. Bitter aftertaste. Great beer. Recommended.
