sayravai (3048), Helsinki, Finland Apr 6, 2004 Updated: Oct 7, 2007 (Bottled) Nice, deep, dark red-amber color with a large, creamy-foamy and tanned head. Sweetish-malty, salty-licoricey, anise-herby and lightly rye-puddingy aroma. Slightly sweet and quite malty flavor with light herby licorice feel. Alcohol is completely hidden. Medium-bodied, very smooth and slightly foamy-carbonated palate. An enjoyable, tasty and very balanced dubbel with the flavors of 8, only a bit less of everything (also alcohol).
(Bottled, was 7-4-7-4-15=3.7) Very dark amber color with medium, tight head. Sweetish, malty and spicy aroma with licorice hints. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and lightly spicy flavor. Oily, medium to full-bodied, somewhat carbonated palate. Basically it’s a Rochefort 8 with some added water - the flavor profile is very similar.
armando629 (392), Budapest, Hungary Sep 7, 2008 Brown-reddish hazy appearance with a medium foamy beige head. Nice aroma of toffe, roasted malt and coffee beans, some caramel and vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel with a well balanced roasted taste of malt and coffee-beans, nice caramel and vanilla, some dried fruits. aru (60), Smørum, Denmark Sep 6, 2008 Brown color with very quick vanishing head. Aroma have notes of yeast and fruit. When the beer enters the mouth it is an easy drinkable one with a well balanced taste of light roasted malt, prickling fruit and a thin slice of yeast. A good light beer but other Trappistes have more to offer. MuttyD (70), Cambridge, USA Sep 5, 2008 Took me awhile to finally try this one considering the 10 is one of my favorites. This beer pours a murky brown/red color with a thin white head. Floraly and fruity (apples and pears) aroma and flavor. Very smooth on the palate and extremely drinkable. Clean and lingering finish. Great beer! Schultsc (407), Henderson, Nevada, USA Sep 3, 2008 Light chestnut with golden highlights and a thin, off-white head. Odd, though not unpleasant Tequila-like edge (strange, yes, but it’s there in this bottle) with some nutty malt characteristics and a touch of alcohol. Interesting fermentation characteristics in the flavor that seems to impart a salty tang over a light, nutty malt profile. The body is very light, thin, and almost watery--though not negatively so--the 7.5% alcohol is hardly noticible which is quite a disappearing act. This beer is not really my thing but remains quite interesting nonetheless. Straling (21), Amstenrade, Netherlands Sep 1, 2008 Bottle 33cl.
Poured at 13 degrees Celsius.
Aged 2 years.
Pours a light clear brown/red colour.
Beautiful head, good size and lasts.
Smells gives away loads of fruits, varying from strawberrys to lemon.
Very mouthfilling beer, good taste, can find all the fruits that are in the smell again.
Also this beer is balanced excellent, tastes like the 8 and 10 Rochefort, but just a little less flavour to it.
Though I must say that I can taste the alcohol more than in the other 2.
