This is a still a great beer, but just can’t live up to its big brother R10. For $6 cheaper a beer, I’ll sadly drink more R8 then R10.

Pours dark translucent brown, big flakes of yeast sediment, thin head that leaves in a hurry. Smells of overripe peach, sugar, and alcohol. Taste is of strong alcohol, spicy dark malty bread, a bit more burnt than a standard Trappist. The aftertaste is largely defined by warming alcohol. In my opinion, the alcohol content was not well masked here. Overall, good but not near my expectations.

Bought in Dec 05, drank in August 06 - no worries about this being an old, irrelevant beer review, It will be constantly updated. I’ve got a dozen of these suckers cellared. Looks like rootbeer. Has a 1/4", very thick tan head. Excellent 360 degree lacing. Tons of muck and a good amount of granual like sediment. The aroma is awesome. Intense spice, dates, burnt sugar, soft liquid banana flavouring, I swear I can smell candied orange rind. Don’t drink it yet...keep smelling...ahhhh. It just keeps changing. So very comples. The 8 has an amazing blend and balance of the spice and fruit. Tasty yeast and seems almost meaty. THere is a good ammount of alcohol along with the caramel, licorice, plum or date, oranges (weak).... I think that’s it. Incredibly smooth and full bodied. The harsh spice seems to turn soft - soft harsh spice that has turned soft, sweet and chewy yeasty stuff. Mild but lengthy aftertaste that has left my mouth soft. How many times did I type ’soft’? Hard bitter last sip with all that sediment that ended up getting a bit sour. The last bit of mud at the bottom of my glass after the final pour of the remaining sediment gave it a murky brown / orange colour. Hello heavan.

Pours a beautiful dark red-dark brown into a Belgian chalice. Nice sweet aromas. Tastes like oak and cherry. Very smooth finish with an ever so slight hint of alcohol at the end. Nearly perfect.

Pours a dark brown, cloudy, creamy beige head. Nose of raisins, yeast, malt. Taste is sweet, malty, mild fruit and alcohol taste, finish is warming. Texture is very creamy. I can’t wait to come across a 10 now.

Pours dark brown with a fizzy off-white head and constant bubble realease. I poured this beer and let it sit watching the head grow for about 10 minutes. Aroma is cherry, caramel, and other mild fruits. Taste is smooth and roasty with no bitterness. Very rich beer, sweet and alcoholic.

Pours deep beown with a nice small head. Taste is deep with a nice fruit and carmel flavor infused throughout. The smell lingers and allows you to relish the flavors you soon enjoy. Since the 10 can be hard to get (it is my fav) this is a great beer to drink as you wait for the next 10.
