Appearance is dark brown with plentiful flecks throughout the liquid. Head was gone sooner than expected. Flavor chocked full of molasses, ripe plums, currant, chocolate and other complexities. This palate is very fizzy and bubbly with a hint of alcohol. Word to your mother. tmc90 (17), Belgium
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jun 2, 2009 Possibly my favorite beer, every time you drink it you get another dark fruit flavor. Can buy this for just over one euro a bottle at my local supermarket so there’s always one in my fridge markas101 (550), Fargo, North Dakota, USA

However that beng said it had a nice brown color with a light brown head with perfect lacing. Aroma of brown sugar. Alcohol not well hiden bt it grows on you when you drink it. Over all a great beer but not something that I want to drink all of the time. madvike (314), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2009 Bottle - I was expected to be knocked off my feet by this beer, but it was really underwhelming. First off, it looked dead in my glass -- a syrupy amber with suspended floaties that don’t move. It looked solid. The smell, admittedly, is incredible. There’s toffee, plum, even a little menthol (?) -- it’s big and sweet and reminded me of a barley wine. The flavor is pretty good, too -- sweet malt, dark fruit, and candy. There’s a good deal of booze in there too -- it’s a little hot. The body makes it hard to taste the beer -- it’s syrupy and the carbonation is jacked up. It was hard trying to pick out flavors between the bubbly assault on my tongue. All in all, a big disappointment. This was a good beer, but nothing like I was expecting. Having already had the Trappiste 10, this was always going to be difficult. Probably a good idea to have both together but regardless this is a splendid beer. The pour seemed thinner than the 10, and the head still buoyant. The taste is malt, coffee, chocolate with a hint of sharpness that the 10 doesnt have. I cant split them though. Both fantastic beverages, even with a heavy cold the flavours pour through tilldeath (74), Arvada, Colorado, USA
