cmonster (73), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 25, 2009 11.2 oz bottle served in a snifter. Pours a cloudy, sediment-ridden, dark brown with a large bubbly off-white head. Aroma is figs, prunes, and bread. Gains complexity as it warms. Medium-full body. Flavor has prunes, malts, and brown sugar. Finish of dark fruits lightly seasoned in whiskey. xs2500 (90), Mississippi, USA Apr 19, 2009 This is an Excellent brew! It has a wonderful flavor and appearance. This is a must try for everybody!! Just bought the 10 and can’t wait to try it. floydian1 (255), FNQ, Australia Apr 18, 2009 330ml bottle into tulip glass. A dark brown opaque ale with a medium-sized diminishing beige head. Nose of burnt sugar, dark fruits and spicy hops. Full bodied with tastes of fruity sugary malts with a hint of liquorice and a satisfying bittersweet dry hop finish. It is not as sweet as the aromas would suggest. Smooth on the palate with a seductive drinkability. Nice. Jonte (801), Gothenburg, Sweden Apr 17, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy brown colour with an off-white head. Aroma: Malt, berries, apples/pears, caramel, almonds, alcohol, a hint of phenols. Taste: Malty, but with a rather light body, berries, lightly roasted, mild coffee, almonds, caramel, apples/pears, salmiac, brown sugar, lightly medicinal. Lively carbonation. Complex, and not a bad beer at all, but it really doesn’t do it for me. Westvleteren 8 is much better. judasbeer (230), Budapest, Hungary Apr 9, 2009 Reddish brown hazy amber color, with frothy off-white head. The aroma is reminiscent of Rochefort 10. Black currant, blueberry tartness with moderate sweet cheese feel. The flavor is somewhere between the two other brews form the abbey. Grapes, berries, sugar candy flavors. Coriander, liquorice and slight alcoholic warming feel in the finale. More dense texture than the Rochefort 6. Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Apr 9, 2009 Poured brown with a tan head. Aroma of fruit, spice, and caramel. Mellow fruit followed by caramel and cinnamon. ben4321 (954), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 7, 2009 Location: First try was out of a bottle Nov ’08 at RFD
Overall Impression:
This one is a really, really top quality beer, I’d put it just a smudge behind the it’s brother the 10.
vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Apr 7, 2009 I think this beer is very underated, the ten is very good, however this beer is much easier to find and is almost as good. I actually found some that already aged 3 years and were cheaper than the new ones(this beer ages well).
