wingman333 (233), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 22, 2009 I had been drinking Lite all day and wanted something good. Found this at Milltown. Poured from bottle into signature bulb-type glass. Deep brown in color with flavors of brown sugar, and maybe fig or prune. Very rich but not overly so. So good, I will have to try the 10 when it’s available. Frovigalning (398), , Sweden Feb 21, 2009 My first rating at ratebeer. The overall experience from this beer was a suprise. Allot better then I first remembered. The colour is a dark brown colour which I cant see through. Lots of delicious foam that has an excellent malty smell. The first taste was very deep and lots of different spices. Chocolate and cognac first comes to mind. The aroma is deep and round and feels great on the tongue picking up different tastes. However after a couple of moutfulls I realise there is something missing to bring out that perfect score. All in all though a briliant beer! I got the 10 in the fridge, I really hope its as good as this one. Nebulor (109), , California, USA Feb 19, 2009 Abundence of aromas including chocolate, a bready roasted malt, and a beerish chewiness smell.
Cloudy dark broth color and had dark brown sediment at the bottom of the bottle. The off white head dissipated to nothing.
A chewy chocolate roasted malt taste and has an alcohol flavor and warming thoughout.
Close to full bodied, resinous, and has crisp carbonation.
This is like a good winter warmer, Belgian style.
Merrill (74), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 17, 2009 Lots of creamy foam overdark amber cloudy beer. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate and cognac with a bit of pepper. Sweet malts and alcohol with just enough hops to make it fly. Rally very subtle candied fruit, licorice and gin. Every sip is better than the last. Velvetymouthfeel and the finish is licorice that tapers very smoothly I would make this my favorite of the 3 MrGGen (221), Italy Feb 17, 2009 Updated: Apr 17, 2009Colore marrone scuro con la schiuma marrone chiaro.Gusto potente,al palato percepisco un sentore di caramello e frutta,e ha un buon equilibrio di dolce e di amaro.Una belga superiore alla media che è già altissima e una birra tra le mie favorite di sempre. DalzAle (474), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Feb 16, 2009 Bottle. Pour was a rich dark amber brown with thick one inch carbonation. Aroma was very malty sweet with tons of candi sugar. Flavor was also malty, niutty with some pleasant yeast funk on the aftertaste. A very good beer! JustinFromAL (114), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Feb 16, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a minimal off-white head. Smells like grapes or cherries, very appealing. Incredibly smooth taste, chocolate covered cherries comes to mind. If I had to guess I would put this at 1/2 the alcohol content that it actually is. This is a tasty beer. I can’t wait for the 10 that’s sitting in my fridge! horto008 (21), Alabama, USA Feb 15, 2009 I enjoyed the 10 more than the 8, but this beer is probably more approachable. The tan head was not as thick as I had anticipated. Very smooth and thick like one would expect of a Belgian ale. The high alcohol content was apparent only from the label as the strong flavors hid it well.
