Sweet malty aroma, pours a coppery brown with a tall river-pollution looking head. Im thinking this one has been filtered through a chain link fence. Lots of particulates in there. Slighty fruity flavor with notes of dark fruits and lighter fruits such as apricots, figs, prunes and some peach. Mild hints of spice like nutmeg and perhaps coriander. Finishes well with a slightly sticky palate. pretty good Belgian.

Pours a nice deep brown with a creamy, tan head. Some floaties in there. Roasty, sweet malt nose. Some yeast, some chocolate powder, some fruit. Flavor is complex and fruity, lots of dried and dark fruits, and great belgian yeast character. Creamy, well-carbonated palate. A bit of spice in the finish. Alcohol is not detectable and its very drinkable for 9%.

Served in a Chimay glass, actually I thought I had a Rochefort glass, but I couldn’t find it. Consume date is 2013, I have to buy another bottle to to age, it sure will get better. Dense and creamy brown head that to my surprise faded too soon, with a lot of floaties. Hazy brown colour. Aroma: cocoa, figs, raisins, barrel aged wine, plums, vanilla. Mouthfeel is just warmness, like a brandy. Taste:complex, its different with every sip, figs, apricots, cocoa, vanilla. Hard to say everything that goes on in this beer. Just great, probably the best of the Rocheforts.

Dark amber/red with a tan head that turns low, dense and fluffy. Absolutely beautiful, complex nose. Milk chocolate and roasted coffee malt with raisin, maple syrup and pine. A leathery yeast is prominent, and the perfectly strong alcohol carries all these flavours to each corner of your skull. The aroma is almost a meal in itself! The flavours are simply amazing. That obvious leathery yeast with raisin and caramel. There is a spiciness of pepper and aniseed that tingles the lips. Rich toffee flavours mix with the roast malt and mild coffee to make milk chocolate. Very full bodied, and the alcohol and spice give it that glorious, warm finish. Awesome.

Not my favorite of the Trappist, but the 8 is the best among the Rochefort herd. This beer is a little too sweet for my taste. Not a bad beer, but not a must try!!

[330ml bottle liberated from Belgium by Lee - cheers mate!] Pours deep red-brown with a rather dirty beige frothy head. The moderate carbonation is irritating and really doesnt suit the style. Smells of chocolate, port and some metal. Fortunately the metal doesnt carry through into the flavour, which is raisins, chocolate, banana and port. Despite the strength, these flavours are not wiped out by an alcohol burn - this is a well balanced beer. Despite the too-high carbonation, it is actually incredibly smooth to drink. The sweetness does get a little sticky by the end, and it could do with a little spice or bitterness to cut through it. Nevertheless, it is a very good beer - but it still falls short of some of the rave reviews it has received here.

bottled. Nice dark cloudy brown color, with a nice tan head, but goes fast and keep a nice lace until finish. Aroma is sweet with notes of nuts and chocolate. Flavor is pretty much the same just with some bitterness. Mouthfeel is dry and bitter letting a bitter sweety flavor..
