Smells strongly of fermenting malt but is greatly overshadowed by a musty, mildewy smell that really isn’t that pleasant of an addition, it reminds me of my experiences with not-that-great homebrew. Somehow it manages to be both completely dark AND cloudy, though how you can see clouds through the dark, I don’t know. But this beer does it somehow. The flavour is so smooth at first your sort of waiting around for it to pick up and then it’s all up from there. The yeasty flavour actually hits before the malts, and then it all bubbles nicely off the tounge as only a belgian can. Very nice, but I do have to say I thought it would be a bit thicker/stronger.

Pours deep brown, With a tall white head, Looks Amazing, like it should be in an ad or something. Aroma is very malty with slight fruit notes, Very malty, bready flavour. Very rich and deep, notes of chocolate are preasent towards the end of the palate, and just the most subtle fruit flavoue. I am very impressed. This is a great trapist. It really gives me every thing I would expect of Trapist. Like I said before, Great!

330ml. My favorite beer overall. After tasting it again in blind condition i’m sure this is for me the best beer in the world. Malty caracter with a caramal and fruity taste. Great beer with a excellent performance. Only they could have added some more hops to this beer. Absolutly a perfect beer none the less.

Got this in a bottle in the Porterhouse in Dublin. Wonderful deep, dark brown colour with lasting tan head. Aroma is strong and of fruit and malts. Flavor was also strong. Tasted malty with fruity notes. Not particularly bitter, sweet or sour. Well balanced. Finish was of a strong alcoholic kick though perhaps not as strong as on might expect. Fantastic beer all round and one for those long winter evenings.

Enjoyed from an 11.2 oz bottle in an elongated tulip glass. The beer pours a deep ruby to just lighter than brown. Winey and almost sour notes come through in the nose, as does some raisony malt. The palate is slightly sour up front, and then malty toward the middle and finish. Carbonation lessens the aforementioned characters, but not to a point that seriously detracts from the overall qualities of the beer. Overall, a classic.

11.2 oz bottle 9/21/09 (Courtesy of ygtbsm94)-Pours a dark brown with a small loose tan head. Aroma of fruit, yeast, bread, and butter. Taste of malt, caramel, toffee, and fruits. Alcohol burn when going down. This medium bodied brew is well balanced and quite tasty but maybe I was expectimg more than there was.
