Linnet (107), , Sweden Oct 18, 2008 big creamy off white head, very dense. Colour is very dark ruby. Aroma i yeasty, dark fruit winelike. Flavour is sweet, warming, but there is too much carbonation for my taste which makes hard to distinguish all the flavours. I really love rochefort 10, but this one was a disappointment, the carbonation is really aggressive an spoils the taste form me, can there be something wrong with my bottle? lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 18, 2008 Rating #250, mini-milestone. Murky earth brown pour with a heavy building carbonation to lift up a finger of pillowy smooth whitish-tan head with lasting retention and mild collapsing lacing that holds the glass longer than the center of the head. Aromas of alcohol soaked prunes, cherries, plums, candi sugar, dark pit fruits and dark mahogany and cherry wood highlights. A light body of maltiness highlighted by candi sugar and hints of cherries. Very sweet finish with hints of smoothing yeastiness and vanilla. Retains the bodyand feel but with slightly less taste complexity than the 10, while I feel like the Westy 8 loses too much body along with complexity compared to the 12. baggio (195), norrtälje, Sweden Oct 18, 2008 Finally got around to reviewing this beer that i’ve tried so many times before.
Appearance: Dark brown with a thick, impressive lace.
Aroma: Banana marshmallow, raison, alcohol. Yummy!
Flavor: Coffee, malt, liqorice ?, tofee, yeast
Palate: Smooth carbonation and very creamy.
A really complex beer but despite this it goes down very easy. Not as good as its bigger brother but still damn good! trapez (766), Hilleroed, Denmark Oct 18, 2008 Bottle. Aroma almost like wine with grapes, raisins and a bit of dark chocolate. Clear dark redbrown colour with nice soft beige head. Flavour very equivalent to the aroma and sweet. Rich carbonation. Well balanced. TheJollyOne (204), Kofu, Japan Oct 13, 2008 Updated: Nov 29, 2008Poured a finger of white head which diminished quickly but left some wonderful lacing. Medium particles were suspended within a gorgeous deep caramel brown body. Smelled of burnt sugar and a light bouquet of flowers, not too strong. The tase was quite above par; an amazing array of fruits and spice that hid the alcohol perfectly. The palate was fizzy and light, the tase lasting nicely. Nice with rasin bread! hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Oct 12, 2008 BB 12/27/2012...rich copper/woody amber with lots of clumpy yeasties and a soft off white head which deposits some spotty lacing. smells of piloncilla/brown sugar/candy, cooked golden raisins, chocolate, nuts, lots of graininess, spice and grassy/floral hoppiness. lots of spice on the palate makes the alcohol apparent... flavors of cinnamon, flowers/hops, raw sugar, wood and watered down pureed golden raisins with a prickly finish from a high level of carbonation. medium body. as the carbonation settles down it gives a slick texture that coats the tongue. so like westy 8 at this age...
