502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jul 4, 2008 11.2 oz. into pint for lack of trappist. Dark nut brown pour with an off-white fizzy head that fades pretty quickly. Smells sweet like apricot and caramel – hard to nail it down to be honest. Tastes a bit funky: nuts and berries with a weird subtle tang – good but weird an no where as balanced as the 10 IMO. No alcohol flavor. Light bodied on palate with some soft fizzy carbonation. Overall: solid, but splurge the extra dollar and get the 10! charlotte (1997), Vanlřse, Denmark Jul 4, 2008 Hazy brownish colour with medium white head.Aroma of dark fruits feels vineous with strong hidden alc.Well balanced and tasty brew with soft finish. Muddy brown with tan head. Vineous and spicy. A bit too much alcoholtaste. Not quite as good as #10, but almost Borup (1345), Albertslund, Denmark Jul 2, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a nice off-white head. Aroma and flavour of spice, sugar, toffee, dark fruit and alcohol. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2008 POured a murky brown color with a small off white head. Aroma is of dark fruits mainly and alcohol. Flavor was kind of bland with notes of candy suagr, dark fruits and lots of alcohol. Just did not enjoy this much, way too boozy. yumyum (113), barrie, Ontario, Canada Jul 1, 2008 very nice on the nose, smell plums/raisins and other subtle fruity tones. found the carbonation to interfere with my enjoyment of the beer. Seems to linger forever. As it warmed got significantly better. Nonetheless I was disappointed overall. Perhaps I was expecting too much. It is a quality brew but I have had others I enjoyed more. I was anticipating more flavour especially after the aroma. prefer struise pennepot Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle, picked up in some random grocery store in Bruge. Chunky deep brown, persistent thick light tan head. Mexican chocolate, coriander seed and gingerbread aroma. Cocoa powder, buttered walnut flavor. Massive peppery carbonation. Clean dry finish with just a faint linger woodiness. This has been one of those beers I can’t believe it has taken my so long to get around to tasting, and now that I have, was indeed good, but a little disappointing overall. It tastes like a beer in its awkward teen stage: beer that is not young enough to have the brightness of fresh beer, nor old enough to have that soft unity of maturity. Lots of sass, but still doesn’t know what it wants to be when it grows up. gary07734 (391), Tyne & Wear, England Jun 29, 2008 Updated: Mar 29, 20090.33l bottlle.
Pours deep muddy brown with a large foamy tan head fair ammount of carbonation. Smell is sweet and alcoholic, taste is complex, raisens, malt, cherries, fairly sweet with an alcoholic finish. An excellent truly enjoyable beer.
