toncatcher (228), Santee - SAN DIEGO, California, USA Apr 28, 2008 bottle. Pours dark brown with a slight amber hue and a tan head. Aroma of bread, yeast, spice, and dark fruit. Flavors of belgium yeast, pepper, and spice. Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008
A- Pours a murky brown, letting no light pass through. A huge light brown head initially tops this brew then fades to a nice 2 finger head.
S- Smells of grapes, raisins, dark fruit with a hint of alcohol that stings the nose.
T- Very light however hugely complex in taste. Yeasty and earth with hints of spice. Small amount of dark fruit tastes along with a distinct alcohol warming.
M- Perhaps a bit overcarbonated. Medium bodied.
D- This is definitely one to sip on but for the ABV it is very drinkable. espenra (277), Oslo, Norway Apr 25, 2008 Updated: Aug 3, 200833cl bottle from Systembolaget. It poured an dark red-brown, almost black color with a medium foamy head that settles down slowly in the glass. The aroma is sweet and smells of alcohol, malts, raisins and dark chocolate. The flavour is fruity and bitter and tastes of alcohol, yeast, malts, raisins. It has a suprisingly short aftertaste. tympanic (50), Alabama, USA Apr 25, 2008 Pours dark cola color, mildly fizzy, generous off-white head. Smells and tastes of spice, ripe fruits, and alcohol. Wish I could find the 10 around these parts... trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 25, 2008 Pours a deep, dark orange with a great Belgian head. Smells sweet, very fruity - almost overpoweringly so - but the flavor makes up for it. Has the smoky licorice notes of a stout, along with a bit of plum and black cherry. Great brew, but it’s lacking a bit of punch - I’m excited to try the 10. spud1987 (46), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Apr 24, 2008 Dark cloudy brown color. Off white head. Aroma of yeast, dried fruit and brown sugar. Nice flavor, good amount of carbonation and little alcohol burn. Somewhat spicy in the flavor. Very good beer. Would like to try this with Chimay Blue to see which I like better. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Apr 21, 2008 my 400th rating and b-day bottle!!!!!!!!!! pours a dark brown with a one finger tan head. aroma is Belgian yeast, raisins, and bread. has a medium body with good lacing and great carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma with some hops. a very smooth and tasty Belgian strong. lively carbonation and the only alcohol present is a little warming effect going down. i don’t get into Belgian beers to much but this one is a keeper. southamptonsam (81), New York, USA Apr 20, 2008 A very pleasant beer. Not a very strong nose. It does not have an assertive personality but it sure hides its alcohol well. The question for me is why would I drink this when I can have a Rochefort 10 instead.
